Anyone do any clamming in Barnegat Bay? Do you use a rake or wade technique?

Admittedly, I haven't gone clamming in quite a few years, but we always did it by wading. The best bet was to wear two pairs of socks, this way you could feel the clams while avoiding at least some of the pinches of the crabs every now and then. My neighbor is a retired teacher who used to do some commercial clamming in the summer, and he said he could give me a couple of rakes for next season if I wanted to go clamming, so I might take him up on it.
It's a lot of fun, but we haven't done it in a while. I guess the recreational clamming grounds are still all near IBSP, right?

most of the guys I see in Bary wade due to low water, the clamming I see by Sandy Hook use rakes cause the water is too deep to wade.

If anyone wants to meet up for some Barnegat Bay clamming this summer, I'm up for it. I have a bit of ride in my boat to get to IBSP (coming from Manasquan River), but I'll come down for a day of it. What's a few gallons of gas for a load of fresh clams?!?

Now you did it, I'm hungry for clams but all I have is Doritos cool ranch chips. :P
