Montauk Sat Sept 13th Report !
« on: September 15, 2008, 09:38:52 AM »
Met Anthony and his 2 sons Anthony Jr. & Vincent at 3:30 am in Wantagh LI.Parked my car & loaded Anthony's truck with my gear.Anthony got us to Montauk in record time.We arrived at Star Island marina at 5 am.Loaded up the boat & at 6 am we pushed off.The sky was overcast & it was damp.As soon as we got outside of the inlet Anthony's son spotted some Birds working.3 oz T-HEX'S & AVA 47'S Bounced of the bottom & at 6:30 am the rods were bending with Bass & Blues. The birds broke up and Anthony took us to more fish. The water was boiling with Albies,Blues,Bass but the fish were very finicky. We could not hook up.The fish were laughing at us.Anthony took us to another school of fish and we still could not hook up.Now these fish were really laughing at us.The water was white & the fish were rolling & we were all nuts. The trollers were hooking up,the fly rodders were hooking up & we were still being laughed at.Anthony went as far as tieing on a treble hook  ;) and still could not hook up.Now Anthony turns to me & say's let's take out the trolling rods.We trolled for about 15 minutes and still nothing.I go inside the cabin of the boat and I put on my thinking cap and tied on a 1 oz Smilin Bill Bucktail tipped with Uncle Josh # 70 pork rind.Went outside and casted out & I Let the bucktail hit the bottom and reeled slow.My rod was doubled over. From that point on it was lights out.Bass & Blues to your arms got tired. At 3:30 pm we were all shot and fished out.Even as we were going back into the marina the amount of fish we saw was silly. We stopped on a few more schools and caught more.

The catching was simply amazing.

Most of the Bass were from 26"-30".

The boats that live lined porgies were the boats that landed the Big Bass.

The surf casters were having a field day on both sides of the Lighthouse.

I must say in all the yrs fishing in Montauk I have never seen an early Fall blitz like we had on Sat.

Took lots of pics but only a few came out.

Most were blurry from the heavy fog.

A great time was had by all.

Got home around 8 pm  Sat night drank 2 beers at the same time and passed out  ;D

Woke up at 9 am yesterday thinking it was all a dream !

Below are pics.

Great trip ! Montauk is definitly awsome. TT^ Really gives me the itch to go back.

Those ablies can be frustrating when they get on rainfish. The only thing that works it tiny rainfish imitations used as a teaser or with a fly rod. I posted a pic of some of them in the teaser threrad.

Great trip. And I usually wait until Oct/Nov to fish Montauk.  The water must be cooler than normal this year.
