Potter County Pa, going to camp
« on: April 10, 2008, 06:09:37 AM »
Heading up to camp today in Potter County to fish this weekends season opener for trout.  I't will be nice since theres no cell phone service.  No pages in the middle of night or calls of any kind.  I will post some pics when I return.  I will be fly fishing kettle creek opening day and it is supposed to rain and be around 64 degrees.  Perfect for quills and bwo's.  I hope everyone has a great time at the party maybe next year I'll see you guys there.  grtn

Good luck out there.  t^ I have property in Cambria County and usually head out there for the trout opener as well. Have some commitments this weekend though.

Good Luck in God's Country!  What part of Potter is your camp?  Are you close to the Waldheim?  I'll be heading up in 2 weeks for Spring Gobbler - great time of year to be there!!!

We had a pretty good trip even though the weather was around 40 with scattered rain.  We fished Kettle creek the first day and it was very slow, between the 3 of us we got around 60 in the morning.  Last year I caught 43 the first morning.  The bait fisherman were pounding them all day and I had to cast my arm off to keep up.  Second and third day it was the opposite, the fly guys picked up the majority of fish.  Had a little hatch of quill gordans the last day and picked up a few on dry flies.  Flies that worked were black hares ears, ray charles (so easy a blind man can catch a fish) and gold beadheaded woolybuggers.  Pictures are getting developed as we speak, I will post them a little later today.

More than half the pictures didn't come out....stupid underwater disposablecamera. The pic below is of my buddy Eric who showed the local crowd of serious flyfisherman the Jersey way of fishing.  He actually caught 2 trout on his 11ft surf rod with 50lb braid.  Set the hook and sent the trout airborn and hit himself in the chest with it, can't take this guy anywhere.  Line shy trout my butt this time of the year.  The last pic is from the fall trout stocking at Peaquest.  I also caught a 20in rainbow, but my camera thought it would be cool to make it look like I was fishing at night.

Talk about a fish out of water with that surf outfit. Too funny!
