LS4, Saturday Striper Slaughter..
« on: May 22, 2010, 05:08:34 PM »
The last few weeks were good weeks with a boat limit each time.  Headed out today for some more action.  Just me and uncle Luna on board.  Made a stop to one of my favoriate places, anchored up, got the chum slick going... then it was hammer time starting with the very first cast.

We got our 2 man limit with bonus fish within the first 1 1/2 hours, then we played catch and release with over 30 keepers for the day. We threw back fish in the 33" - 35" range.

We had hot action until the tide went slack, took a break for about 45 minutes, then as soon as the tide turned the boat around, again, first cast and it was fish on.  We never had to move.

We went through a complete bushel of clams with just the two of us and left them biting.

This by far was the best day of the 2010 season.

Nice day Nick. t^  All on clams?
all on clams.. all season so far, only clams.  Even with the hot bite, I threw a diamond jig and a large Shad rig, and they didn't get a touch, and all the while, the clams where still catching.  Many times we were hooked up at the same time. There is a trick though, youi have to set the hook on first bump or you will be baitless.  Uncle Luna didn't understand this during our first few trips, but today he mastered it and hooked up most of the time.

Thanks for the great day Nick, It took me awhile to abandon those circle hooks that you hate, I finally listened and yes I will admit I had a great hook up ratio and was slaming that pole to
set those J Hooks  clp. Today my nephew was laughing at me not because I was missing the fish while he was hooking them in the past. Today he was laughing at the look on my face as I was throwing back 32-34 inch fish, I will take that kind ribbing any day  rofla

Nicks great report, doing very well lately!

Yeah, fishon.. I have been getting luck with the stripers.  Clamming is great to score keepers, but the cows are coming on Bunkers and jigs.  I hesitate to take that long ride south where all the great action is with the larger fish, but I may have to make that venture soon.  At this point, I got my fill with stripers and can't wait for the fluke, but if I do go for stripers again, it will only be for the cows.  I think I am done with the clams at this point.
