new to the salt

I'm new to saltwater fishing. I live in ny finger lakes region. I've fished about everything in fresh water from panfish to pike and king salmon. Trout are my passion, but it's time to expand. I fished the salt for the first time 2 weeks ago out of belmar. Took a blues party boat, and hated it. Then with a little help from the bait store I shore fished and caught 20 fluke (2 keeps),sea robins, a blackfish, and 2 crabs. I'm not very wealthy(poor), but I'm looking to start shark fishing, so any help would be apreciated.If anyone needs info on ny fresh water fishing I'de be more than happy to help.

What was it that you hated about the bluefishing trip?  A blue trip can be pretty fun with some decent action and some big fish!
At least you had a good experience after that.  You did pretty good nailing a 1 for 10 average on the fluke though!  t^
There has been some recent activity on the surf for some sharking.  I hope they didn't all disappear with the drop in water temperature this past week.  Make sure you have some heavy tackle and get your bait out as far as you can and wait for that rod to double over.  Bunker chunks are a good bait to go with.  Keep a good eye on your rod, as they will drag your equipment right down to the water!

This particular party boat was overcrowded with really rude deckhands. Too shoulder to shoulder for me.

You may want to come down again in Oct or Nov and hit a blue/striper PB during the week.

Less crowded and maybe catch a striper or Albie.

Sounds like you had some good action with the fluke.  TT^

Welcome Perch,

As far as fishing for sharks it is mostly a night thing and now would be the season for them off the beach.  The waters right now are not the best after the blow that just went through so give it some time to clear and things will heat up again.
