Reed's Beach (Off of Rte 47/So. Jersey)
« on: March 13, 2008, 02:34:17 PM »
Hey all ... I was driving around looking "off the beaten" path locales. I came across Reed's Beach off of Rote 47 between North Wildwood and Avalon.

On Delaware Bay - within a preserve or so it seemed - houses on both sides of a sandy road and some open beach frontage between the homes.

Anyone have knowledge of the area they'd care to part with ... either hitting reply here ... or via a PM?

I don't know if you're allowed to fish that stretch ... I don't know if the locals feel too kindly about a car pulling up and a guy hopping out to fish ... I don't know if the "endangered horseshoe crabs" prevent fishing the spot.

Anyhow ... thanks.

I don't think there are too many on the board familiar with that area.  But if there are any, I'm sure they will jump in with an answer.   t^

Thanks Captain Joe. I am a Philly guy with a place in North Wildwood. Novice but my son and I (age 11) enjoyed ourselves last summer.

We usually fished the back bay area from the sodbanks around bridge connecting Cape May w/Wildwoods, as well as the surf from Anglesea down to CM.

I thought I'd inquire about Delaware Bay area and see what's what.

Again, thanks.

Maybe the best thing would be to ask the local officials but ask in the way as though it was for the family.  ie; My son and I are new to the area and would like to know if such and such place was open to fishing.

Usually works even if the answer was no they will probably point you in the direction of other places you never thought of.

Happy Catching

Paul, thanks for the advice. I'll try your advice over Easter weekend. The only people along the whole stretch of road were builders/contractors working on peoples' home. I am sure they'll be folks in 'em next weekend.

It has been years since I fished there but we used to use a boat ramp on bidwell's ditch and you had to go past reeds beach to get there.  Just before the ramp there was a tackle/bait store that collected for the ramp.  It was definitely a local place so if it is still there they could answer your questions.  The end of that boat ramp was in about 15 ft fo water so caution was definitely needed to not drop the trailer off the end.
