Headed out early Saturday morning with Scott, Chris and Joe and headed for the Hudson Canyon. Halfway out on the VHF I spoke to Capt.Freddy Briefly on the Toy and he mentioned some nice Mahi over at the chicken. We made the run over but had no luck.
At the Hudson tip we tossed lures at the pots but the Mahi didn't want them. Switched over to trolling and we caught 3 Mahi . Trolled much further into the canyon and set up for the night chunk at dusk. Must have been 25 to 30 boats around. No Party boats though. We released a 7' blue shark, had another blue swimming in the underwater lights with squid. 4 am One reel started peeling line good that we fought for 5 minutes and the 60lb flouro leader broke clean below the swivel. Nothing hit the deep drop sword rig.
Trolled again at first light with nothing hitting the spread. Nobody reported on the VHF of catching any tuna in our area. Just a swordfish in the 300lb range. The weather was great out at the Hudson. The ride home had a stiff south wind.

Tuna next time Eddie. As long as it's not 10 ft seas, a Canyon trip is alwasy cool.
