Isn't they plant down for repairs?
-
no...this October they will shut the reactor down for scheduled maintenance. the facility itself never closes.
-
I think they are partially powered down right now. Some type of problem and are doing emergency repairs on...unless they are already done?
TT^
-
nah matt, up & running. my dad works there.
-
Cool...I think the emergency repair might have been what Frank was referring to 5hrug?
Thanks for the inside info ;D!

t^ no prob dude. if any repairs it wasn't with the reactor. That thing is about 150' deep in the ground and surrounded by 5' of thick reinforced concrete. the ol' man is an armed guard there and i'm always asking him what's going on. I used to fish that area a lot too.

Lol yep they all look pretty much the same on the inside. A little differnt on the out side between a pressurized water and boiling water reactor but all the same in the "can". Last tIme I checked Oct is the next schedualed refuel. Roadtech has a site for all refuels and time frames

Been at the plant for 35 years, saw some short flatties caught thursday am. Should be improving.

new to nj here. is this the oyster creek that is by leeds point?
-
Oyster Creek is in Forked River/Lacey Township where the Nuclear Power Plant is located. It runs under Route 9 on the border of Waretown(Ocean Township). You can only fish east of Route 9, west of Route 9 is the power plant's property.
TT^
-
Thanks. It looks like it runs under rt 9 twice. Is there a difference?
-
Northern most part is the inflow used to cool the Power Plant. Nothing special fishing in there. The southern most part of the Creek is the outflow after it has cooled the Plant and is very warm water. Fish love it and it produces year 'round when the seasons are open.

You might be better off hitting up some freshwater spots or the Delaware River that are just as good. Not trying to discourage you from Oyster Creek, though. It is a good place to fish, but it does get crowded and parking and access are not that great.
Also, remember about the Registry and any appropriate freshwater licenses.

Either way good luck!
