Title: decent fluking 8/12
Post by: IrishAyes on August 12, 2007, 08:04:55 PM
Left the dock with a six man crew.  Made our first stop off of Bradley Beach, 60 feet of water.  Got one keeper and some shorts.  Moved north to a lump off of Ocean Grove.  Picked up two more keepers and more shorts.  Slow drift, no wind.  Wondering where the predicted 5-10 knot west wind was.

Moved to a lump off of the Red Church, about 3 miles out.  Finally got our west wind, it blew out of the east.  NOAA 180 degrees off again.

Started getting a decent drift and picking up keepers and shorts.  Was about a 4:1 ratio today of shorts to keepers.

Finished the day with 22 keeper fluke and three nice seabass.  Bob Cole tied John B for high-hook, each having seven keepers.  Bob had the biggie again.  Taped out at 25 3/4 inches.  Digital scale read seven pounds.

Lot's of bunker at the last spot we fished.  Lite up my depthfinder pretty good.

Devil, I just put the depthfinder on over the winter.  So far, it had been a worthwhile purchase.  I will tell better when I start seabassing and togging.

Skip, If Bob wasn't on my boat our catch would go down by half!   TT^

rugman, if you have a chart plotter get the curser to the red church area.  Move it east about three miles and you will see a depth line where the top part is shaped like a squid with the wings.  That is the lump I have been fishing for years now.  With any kind of a drift I usually do good.  The beginning of the season it is slow there but now there is a good bite.   t^
