Headed out of SRI about 5:15 Friday morning with a friend on board who has never went Sharking. A brief patch of dense fog on the way out, but we were soon clear and back to running a a good pace.
Chum slick going awhile and we spot a shark messing with our far balloon, next thing it gones in a bites our next balloon, wow that was cool, now it's boatside, a keeper sized Mako. After a 20 minute fight, my new guy gets the line into the prop
, gone.
Next was a pair of Hammerheads at the boat, refusing to take any pitch bait buffet we offered, then the deep line goes off. It stayed deep for a 15 minute fight before the leader gave way. I'm guessing a Thresher, but we never saw it.
Third hook up was a Hammerhead, one of the pair that came back. 20 minutes on that one, released to fight another day. With no more visitors at 11:30, we decided to head back and to our starting point and start another slick, as we were now quite a few miles from my numbers. 2 1/2 hours nothing, but we had an action packed morning, and yep, he wants to go again.
