Man what a day on the river again ;D It looks like the guys up north just can't do know wrong .We got a late start due to the guy did not pull the herring nets until 7:30 am rgmn We pulled out of the ramp and went to a spot s-side of the Tappen Zee.The tide was comming in and the tem was 52.We did not get a bite and moved to a spot more south. The bite was slow and the fish stated to bite all Big fish we hit a 39 " ,38", 34" and another 34".The tide slowed down and the bite was done .Pulled out of the ramp at 12:30 pm (very hot). It was me ,Markmartin fan from the site and butterfish.I am shot and enjoy some pics and that is the Tappen Zee bride . t^

Yes they are right out of the ocean . The ones that live in the river the meet is very dark. The Stripers are all comming out of the ocean to run up the river to do there thing ,The fish we get are running right by you guys down south. They only been in the river for one day. All Stripes will run the river in there long live and they only want you to eat one every 30 days. They head up to norht n.y to the GE plant and spawn the water is warm up there . t^Pics from last Sunday chrz

Two more weeks and we will change over to Bunker . They are not up the river yet rgmn The striper's just get bigger every week. When the water temps are right to spawn they will just head up the river and not eat much and they will come back up in October to feed on the herring and the blues will be with them. Big Bobs bait tells me it is better in the fall.At that time we just get back it to hunting t^

Nice catch and pics Rug!
Those pug nose stripers are genetic mutations. Possibly caused by low oxygen concentrations in the water, pollution or a recessive gene that appears occassionally. They have ruled out any type of physical injury or damage to the fish or embryos. Definitely more rare than common to catch one of them.
There is a guy, Charlie Cinto, from Massachusetts that has a "famous" pug nose mount. He also has a monster 73lb striper mounted from a 1967 catch. I saw his display, years ago at an expo I attended...very impressive!
