First time in the surf...
« on: October 02, 2010, 07:54:07 PM »
So I put some basic gear together and got out today.  I went down to Beach Haven, around 5:00...need to work on my casting.  At first all I caught was jetty.  Then I felt something.  I pulled in this fish.  I am so green I cant identify it, so I let it go.

Any help would be appreciated.  Thanks!

Thanks for the responses!!

From what I can see there is no size limit.  Did I throw back a keeper?  Good eating too...could have been lunch tomorrow.

I was excited to just land a fish.  I have been reading the boards and trying to learn...I need to work on my casting.  I caught this little guy and kept getting hits when I put the bait where I wanted it to go (based on the valuable advice here).  Most of the time it did not go where I wanted...  Whatever was out there hitting me bit two Gulp Alive Swimming Mullet in half.  Also lost two to the jetty (again my glorious casting skills).

Hope to keep catching and reading the posts here.

Nice catch.
I hear they are good table fare.
They love blood worms.
Can try Fish Bites. Had a lot of success with that too. slt

They are good to eat. No size limit or bag limit that I know of.

Good job.
At least you caught, not bad for the first try.
Keep reading and getting out there.  Everything will start to make sense and fall into place.
