I Don't Get It?

I've been fishing salt for 40+ years now but I've never seen a day like yesterday, Monday June 30th. Caught 10 short fluke that were released and one 23" Fluke boxed but the strangest thing is that no other species of fish were caught on my boat. No Sea Robbins, skate, dogs etc. I was fishing Flynn's Knoll muscle beds, Sandy Hook Channel, outside by the Nude Beach, between the Range Towers and in Sandy Hook Bay.   What's up with that?

I haven't caught any of the so called garbage fish either this year. Which is fine with me.

Too many trash fish is an annoyance, I agree but usually I start out with Gulp as bait and change over to Sea Robbin strips. That saves me some money with gulp going at $20.00 a tub. I usually catch something I can use a bait but not this trip. I'm not like some guys that will kill a short Fluke just for the strips.

Probably has something to do with Jerry keeping you on the rocks, skates and robins abundant on open bottom.

Yea, I tried on the sandy flats in front of the Nude Beach off Sandy Hook too but only short Fluke there. I guess it was just a rare day. I came home with one 23" keeper so I had a nice Fluke supper. No complaints..... just never had a day like that before.

Totally agree on the birds.  Havent seen a single one yet, not that I'm complaining.  Strange to be catching more dogs than birds.

Just has me thinking...we all hate the so-called trash fish.  Since they are scarce this season, something in the overall eco balance is off IMO.

the other day we had 4 keeper fluke, 4 short fluke, a robbin and 6 doggies. also 2 bunker which was really weird... striking at squid strips? wtf?
