Great Striped Bass Trip Sat June 12
« on: June 13, 2010, 09:51:52 AM »
Had a few high school friends come out from Pennsy for the bass bite.

We left the house at 2 AM and were done filling the bait well by 3:30. It was an early morning that we were to be rewarded for.

Ran far south to where I had a good feeling for and I know I ran past some nice fish that I usually would have stopped on and tried for in my usual spots, but my plan was to start south and come up north. Ran from Great Kills to SRI, and I was fortunate to have some experienced boatmen on board with me-----two other sets of eyes while running in the early AM is a comforting thing!

We put out our baits and started on a long, slow northeasterly drift. At first light, one rod started screaming. Since it was Bryce's first trip, he got the opportunity, and he did a great job on his first striper----just over 40#----is he spoiled or what!

Then it was my son Hunters turn, and he took his PB-----37.35 pounds-----His third 30 of the year!!! From hookset to boga-----he did it all himself. I was beaming!

Moved a half mile and took another drift, and Hank the Fish Tank was next and he put in his PB striper. The kids fooled around with a few more and both Bryce and Hunter were in need of a little nap action....So was Dan! I never saw someone fish while laying down before, but he did.

It was getting alittle rough and alittle late, so we decided to stop on a few spots on the way north, but we only had a few hungry blues mess with us.

Great trip. We broke 40# and three of my crew had their PB's, including my son. Took three for the skillet and released the rest. It was also unusual that there were no boats around except for flukers. I guess that everyone has switched over.....

Nice job and report. Great pics.  t^

The bass are still there, just have to be at the same place as they are to score.  TT^
