Went to the boat last night to net bunker.. NOTHING..
Slept in the truck and woke up early to catch bunker.. NOTHING again.
Met a friend from work who never caught a Bass and a friend of his who never went fishing. I figured I will get them into something, even a bluefish.
Cranked the engines and batteries were dead. I just replaced them both June of 2007. I jumped it and ran fine for a while.
While sitting in the knoll with only junk fish and 1 striper at 27" and reaching slack tide, I went to make a move down the beach.
Batteries DEAD. Called Sea Tow for a jump.. ZIP.. Nothing.. So, had to be towed in.
Cleaned the boat, bought 2 new batteries and started fine, but by that time I was sooooo pissed, I called it a day.
I thought for sure that I will get my friend into some action, especially with the bluefish around. The only thing that could stop that from happening, happened..
Till next week.

;D Sounds like " Boating" to me ;D t^

Holy Crap! Sounds like a Whiskey Night to me! chrz chrz chrz chrz It can only get better now. <'((((><

Days like that really suck...
-
:-X Hang in there Nick. You will get your turn
-
what ticks me off the most is, I only get 1 day a week to myself to get on the boat.. When that day is taken away from me, then I really fall far behind on where the bite is.
And the dumb ass that I am.. I promised them at least bluefish action.. What was I thinking?
-
Sorry to hear about your day Nick but days like yours today is all part of the game. Had similar days when I had my boat.
FYI, not that it makes a difference now but I saw more bunker in the back of the back last night than I have seen all year. Saw at least 7-8 big pods and a few smaller pods of bunker.
-
That stinks Nick! :P But I think most of us have had to take the "ride of shame" back to the dock at some point. ;D If you own a boat it's inevitable.
-
yeah, I took that ride a few times.. This was the first on the LS3 though, and sure enough, Boat US took me right through the Flukin Fleet off the hook. Bastard..
-
Nick, You heard of the saying "never let the sh$t wear you down" We have all been there: I hope next trip is better for you. chrz
-
have anyone heard of replacing the batteries after just 2 seasons.. I don't put as much use to the boat as most, and I shut them down after each trip. Hopefully its nothing more then the batteries. The tow boat guy said he doubts that both alternators blew at the same time. We will see.
-
I had to replace my 2 this year.. they were 2 years old.
My Marina said "they are not big fans of the Maintenance free ones"
-
then hopefully thats all it is then. I was very strange that a jump didn't get them started.
-
Ouch!I feel your pain.Been there myself. thud
-
Nick,Two batteries in two years seems like a short time between replacements.I quess it happens, but why both at the same time.
Is something draining them out or killing them?
Wash down pump,lites,GPS,Bilge pump??????
-
maybe the bilge pump, but nothing should drain them since I turn off the batteries after every use.. thats the strange part. Even if i left something on, the battery switch will kill everything.
-
Nick that sucks! Sorry to hear it. Alot of times in dual battery setups, one battery with a dead cell can draw the other battery down making it appear that both are "dead." I'm unsure how your batteries are wired in with the switch, but if the switch doesn't disconnect them from each other, its entirely possible. Load test them each seperately.
-
Nick - you better make sure your alternator or voltage regulator didn't go... Keep an eye on that!
-
Bilge pumps are typically hardwired around the batt switch right to the battery- you want the float switch to trigger the pump even if the batt switch is OFF. Check to see if that is the case. If so the switch or pump may have got stuck in ON position slowly draining battery. Happened to me. Also as has been mentioned load test each batt separately as well as each alternator.
-
whs As warren said. Automatic bildge pumps are not usually effected by the battery switch. It is possible that the automatic pump switch is stuck in the ON position. I highly doubt that your batteries are the problem.
-
I know my battery is hard wired to the bilge pump, and the float being stuck sounds like a logic possibility. Shouldn't I be albe to hear the pump if it is stuck in the on position if the float was stuck?
-
Things can only get better. Remember a boat is just an open hull that you just keep putting money into.
-
Yes, Nick, I know I can hear my pumps running, but only if the engine is off. Or could be something else drawing juice. Try turning the bilge switch from STDBY to ON then see if you can hear it.
-
Yeah, that is a crappy day! You'll get 'em next time.
TT^
-
Kinda late to this post but I feel your pain Nick. Been down that road myself a couple of times....it sucks.
Good luck getting the battery situation straighted out.
-
Nick sorry to hear about your day.
Nice seeing you in the AH Harbor grtn
-
Put a 12 volt meter across the terminals with the boat running. You should get 13.5 volts to 15.1. If so your ok.
-
Keep your chin up nephew- better days are coming!
Maybe things happen for a reason, might have been because you were Uncle Lunaless rofla
-
rofla rofla rofla usually when I am uncle Lunaless.. I catch a 8 lbs Fluke.. hhppy
-
That really sucks. I'm sure you will make up for it next trip...
