Good report jarhead,
Always good to know what is happening all around. Your report will help and maybe get some others to start posting and stop lurking.
Happy Catching

Late weekend report. Got out Saturday for the out going tide in the inlet. We had 15 stripers in 3.5 hours with our limit of 5 keepers. My father in law broke a nice one off with a tight drag that blew up some 30lb power pro. Hit the same tide on Sunday and only got one 27 inch short. Go figure. I will at it again tomorrow. i think I have a fever. >:Dt^ Nice
Hey where are all the Great Bay fishermen? I am going to check a new ride tomorrow and hope to be on the water again soon.Hey you got one here!
What did it taste like chicken?... rofla rofla hhppy hhppy
I am gonna have to find out how to skin em. I catch so many skates I could fill the freezer. Surf n turf, venison and skate....hmmm. nosmly

You need to knock em out and wing them right away. Get the wings on Ice. I take them home and hose them down right away, cause they slime up reel good as they sit. Skinning them is pretty easy once you get started. I usually use some STRONG kitchen shears and cut they outside edge off up to where the meat is about a half inch thick. This gets rid of those nasty little spikes for the most part. The skin is tough, but once you get it started enough that you can get a hold of the skin with your non-knife holding hand, it is easy to take the skin off of that beautiful white meat. A couple of tips-
1. Use a VERY SHARP fillet knife
2. Don't overcook them unless you like seafood flavored chewing gum.
Google recipes using "Skate wing recipes" as your search words and you will be suprised as to how many recipes you will find. I have been playing with them using everything from Old Bay and Cayenne to Roasted Garlic Butter to BBQ sauce. the recipes you fing on google will help you with cooking time depending on how you choose to go with it. (grill, pan fry, etc.) Let me know if you decide to give it a try, it is truly delicious!!! t^ t^ t^

sounds like alot of work... it is worth it? i definitly do want to try it one day ... chrz
Team Basket Case fished the JCAA Fluke Tournament yesterday. We got an early start at 5 AM. We must have caught 65 to 70 fluke with only 7 keepers in 11 hours. Our biggest was 4.81 lbs that was good enough for 7th in the Great Bay port. No one place place was better then the 20 spots we tried. They all produced fish. If the limit was 17 inches we would have limited out by noon time. rgmnNice Job t^

Congratulations guys, I will be standing in the audience watching you collect your prize. We caught one keeper, 20+ shorts, and probably place about 15th a Great Bay. Our biggest downfall was the Brigantine run, we left fish, to find fish. Not a good idea. :'(

Nice job GBJ. I placed 7th in my port. We will be standing on the side stage together to collect our custom made rod. I will be sure to say hi. t^ chrz
i'm looking for reports from the wrecks around the little egg area, the LE, GS north and south, AC, any of the smaller ones, etc. due to the gas prices i know trips out to the wrecks are becoming a bit more scarce along with reports for them, so any info would be great. thanks guys.
thanks hareball

Hey all, first time on this site and it looks like it has a ton of good info and great folks on it sharing the news. I won't lurk so I'll throw up my report from this past saturday, 12 July. Seems like I've been the one boat not getting any keeper fluke (0 for 6 trips) so we tried the kingfish. Put in about 4 hours of chumming near the clam stakes in Great Bay but only got one small king. Loads of short flounder, dogfish, skates and sea robins though. Has anyone done any good sharking in the bay or just outside? We're not looking for anything special, just some toothy critters to fight and tag for another day.
As much as I hate to fish on the weekends, I bite the bullet and took the brother inlaw and my two nephews out today (Sunday).
Great job! Who said sea robins are not worth anything? TT^
Damn, how big was that Sea Robin ? Good thing you didn't cut it up for fluke bait.
Fished the "special numbers" today and the numbers were not all that special. nosmly
Same story, a lot of larger throw back but just two keepers. My friend and I both got into two large brown sharks that really were a lot of fun and kept us busy for a few minutes.
No my boat is still in. I have been working on getting ready for striper season. My zippers on my enclosure all needed to be replaced. They should be done some time this week. I am also shopping for a windless. I am tired of anchoring up near the white water on solo trips and killing myself retrieving the it when it is time to move. I might do some fishing in the afternoon this week. slt
Thanks for the info. I'll be up on 68 or 9, "The Filthy Oar" if you're going to be out on Friday. t^The Filthy Oar .. Hahah Great Name t^
Congrats, Really nice job.
Were you out there that Saturday in the blow? I was anchored up taking them across the bow big time. Never again will I do something that stupid.

Yes I was out there yesterday and today and it was a tad snotty. Friday we went 2 for 12 to about 15lbs and today we went 2 for 5 to 20lbs. If you want to about snotty, last Sunday was flat out brutal.
Today a 30 foot c/c took on water and flipped in the in the inlet. Both passengers were rescued but the boat went down. Very sad indeed.
Smart man not to anchor up alone the way things were blowing. I have seen some guys doing it and I just wonder where there head is.
Rick, do you have a have a cabin on your boat?
Yes I have a cabin with a hard top and a full enclosure.
Now I know what boat to tie off on. ;D
I am going to get Friday afternoon in and then head for the Tuckerton Grille.
Are you docked @ Capt Mikes?
Made the call to get the boat pulled this week. Hopefully I will have a larger boat with a cabin for spring stripers.
Cool Capt Ron.. Way To Go!!!!!!
Come North to Barnegat t^
No boat. I am without a boat for the first time since I was 13 years old. :'(
I was real close to a 30ft Pursuit but he owed more than it was worth. We got to within 10K of making it happen.
My serach continues for a 28 or 30 Pursuit .
I always have room...
as long as Bucktail Bob keeps his poles down to a couple

Yup, still looking. A lot of good deals but the exact boat I want has eluded me. I really don't want to compromise on anything. Some where, some place that 2870 Pursuit has my name on it.Hey Ron: Check out this rig. Great offshore boat here. 1Bigtrouble has a 1997 33 Blackfin for sale on the hulltruth site and ebay. chrz
What I am finding is that a lot of owners owe more than their boat is worth in todays market, and they just don't want to settle for less. I was dealing with a guy that owed 10k more on the boat then todays market says it is worth and I was offering. He did not have the money to pay the 10k to the bank, so he continues to pay his monthly payment that he can barely afford. He was / is really between a rock and a hard place.I felt bad for the guy but not enough to overpay for the boat. I should start a thread on my boat purchasing experience and its frustrations.
I am working with a great broker though and he makes it a little easier. I am just not going to settle for less than I have my heart set on or over pay for a boat.

Took the boat for some last minute repairs and upgrades today. I should be in this weekend. Rehubbing the prop, new GPS and a new pump for the for the fish box. I can not wait to get on the water.

Are you back at Capt Mike's again this year?
We limited out on bass on Tuesday and also did well on drum. Good spring so far. I just need to find me a boat SOON. rgmn
thank you to the people that welcomed me to the site. now i am gonna ask some advice of the great bayers out there: i'm new to great bay, have some family in mystic, came up from southern nj in search of a different type of fishing.(those who have fished the southern waters will understand) I'm trying to find a "shortcut" if you will from the mullica to the stink house without having to follow the channel markers on the northern part of the bay. Followed a few through on sunday with a low tide and no problems except i don't own an accurate plotter, yet, or i would have marked it, i know the channels are pretty tight. so any hints or help i can get i would greatly appreciate the little bit of time and gas savings.I find when taking shortcuts the GPS is pricelss. I run around at dead low and plot what little channel is there and then run em at any tide following my marks. Even a $90 portable in a bracket on the dash works fine.
The best fisherman in the bay is the osprey.

Fished GSS Sunday, what a great day on the water. No stop catching. we must have had over 300 short sea bass but it was a lot of fun. 15 keeper sea bass, 4 keeper porgies...
Did an unoffical test run of my Regulator Sat..54 mph with 250 gallons of fuel and two on board. It is going to be surveyed this friday and then I need a new home for it. Anyone have any suggestion in the Tuckerton / Little Egg area?
Good luck with the boat....I'm in Holgate Marina...nice easy shot to the inlet....lot of great fishing right out of the gate.
hey wanted to see if anyone in the area has been trolling spoons for stripers and if they could help me out with some info on using them. always got them on the hook but thinking i would like to finally try trolling some spoons but using braid, not wire. so any info would be appreciated. thanks.
