More Flounder Reports / Angela Rose II / Fri - Sun
« on: April 28, 2008, 07:35:54 AM »

On Friday, April 25th, Angela Rose Charters hosted the Roy Richard's party to target some winter flounder. With air temps in the 70's it sure didn't feel like we were fishing for anything that should have "winter" in front of it. We took a very short ride to the mud back grounds and dropped anchor. Fishing the outgoing tide right off the bat produced a beautiful blowfish and a bunch of flounder. We went into a lull when the tide changed and on the beginning of the outgoing produced some better numbers. We threw back almost as many fish as we caught. Phil Izzy holds the #1 spot for the April Monthly Pool and biggest flounder over all with a 2 pound 2 ounce flatty.
With flounder season coming to an end as the bluefish start their run into the Manasquan River, Stripers and Blues are next in line as we are starting to book Full and Half Day Charters.

On Sunday, April, 27th, Angela Rose Charters hosted Greg, Jim, and Ron, again, for some flounder action. The day started out pretty slow. We fished for about 3.5 hours without a single bite. Finally we broke the ice with less then 2 hours left and landed our first and second fish with in minutes of each other. From that point on, we took a nice flurry putting 8 fish in the box, 6 shorts, and we lost 3 at the boat. 17 flat ones between 3 gents in less then 2 hours was a good way to end the day. Ron was the Sea Robin King as he took the biggest, toughest sea robin the ever swam the Manasquan. This pup had to weight 5 pounds with a wing span of 3 feet. Hahaha, all kidding aside, it was simply the biggest robin to date. THEN he smacks 2 double headers while Greg tags another double header. Capt. Anthony caught the first fluke of the year at 17 inches.  Greg will take 2 spots in our monthly pool with a 1.15 and a 1.10 flat back.

Over the next few days, Capt. Anthony and crew will be gearing up Angela Rose II for Stripers and Blues. We will target our bluefish in and around the Manasquan River using light tackle, top water poppers, and various jigs. Our stripers trips will run us up and down the beaches looking for bird, trolling deeper waters, or clamming inshore.

I was indeed Lord of the Sea Robins on Sunday.  Luckily the winter flounder followed the Sea Robin swarm in and we began pulling them in.    It was hot and heavy for about two hours.

The trip was great fun.   Anthony is an excellent captain and his mate was quick to chum, bait and most importantly, measure the fish we brought in.    The boat was great and the equipment supplied was in perfect working order.

Looking forward to trying an open charter when the flukies come in.

My flounder experience on the ARII was great and the boat is a great fishing platform.
