Prop Question
« on: September 18, 2010, 11:23:33 AM »
Last weekend I tried a stainless prop on the boat that was 1/2" bigger and has a tighter pitch. It planed off faster and handled better but it only runs at 4300 rpm wide open. It used to turn 4800 rpm with the original prop. My question is If I find that it's getting better fuel economy could a 500 rpm drop be too hard on the engine? And should I just put the old one back on? 5hrug

Thanks, Frank.

I am no expert at this.. but I do know holding and engine back from it's set RPM @ WOT..  isn't good..
at least that's what I remember.

43 seems really low..  If this is a 2stroke.  they love to scream. and need it t^

Prop expert I'm not, these guys are in their own league, but the motor MUST run at its recommended wot rating or you will dog that motor. If its 4000-4500 rpm max you want to be at the upper end of that range.
