raritan bay stripers
« on: September 27, 2010, 10:08:13 PM »
Where are they? Under the blues? No. Chasing bait into the creeks and flats? No. They seem to be wherever they shouldn't be. Forget your honey holes and areas that usually produce fish I spent hours chasing birds and following instinct with no avail. Then when all else failed me on my way back to my mooring at KYC I ran into a school right outside the sail boats. Just dumb luck I happened to see a bigger short break the surface so I figured I take a few casts. Casting ahead of my drift using a fishfinder rig with a whole clam and 3oz pyramid I bounced the clam off the bottom a couple times on a fast drift and as soon as I came on top of my rig and about to reel up FISHON! A decent 29 again and again same approach same results. Caught 6 fish 2 keepers in the matter of a hour 100 yds from my mooring wish I would have known coulda saved gas money.

Thank you magic thread is an elastic string that you tie your clam to the hook with and it disappears.

Fishing, with me, has always been an excuse to drink in the daytime.
