Maiden Voyage 6/3
« on: June 03, 2008, 11:14:52 PM »
Well the stars finally came together and I was able to wet the new boat. I went by myself just in case I had any problems and did not want to ruin someones day of fishing.  Got a late start because I had to put everything on the boat and find a place to put it.  I had thought it through but until you get it on you never know.  Launched at 7:30 from AH where the boat lives on its' trailer by the ramp. Found out right away that the Delta anchor does not go well with the trailer. Was able to power off the trailer but knew the return would be fun.  Headed to the CG Station to get some Sea Robin for bait. set up a drift and got one right away and then realized as a patrol boat pulled out that I had left my wallet in the car!  Back to AH, tie up, get wallet and run across the bay again... Looked at the fleet in the reach and after listening to the "No fish" talk I decided to head south.  Tried the Nude Beach, Monmouth Beach, the Rocks, Long Branch with negative results. A few small fish no keepers.  The water temps were 52-57 oceanside.  Decided to run back and head up the Reach. Drifted with the fleet just beyond the Ammo pier and picked away at small fluke.  They were biting onsquid/killie combo as well as squid/herring combo.  After 2 most of the Party boat were gone and things quieted down and so did the fishing as the wind picked up and the tide started to really run heavy.  Moved up to can "14" and hooked a 22" fluke on a chartruse squid with a killie.  Then hooked a 17.9" followed by Robins.  Called it quits at 3 with the wind getting nasty.  Ran back to AH with a stop at the terminal channel which produced nothing.  Ran the boat back on the trailer but had to remove the anchor first as there was no way that the anchor was going to clear the trailer winch.  All in all a pleasant day on the water and the boat is a keeper.  Have to get the fishfinder working but everything else is fine.  Tried several forms of Gulp but it proved a non plus.

Nice report Bob.Good Luck with the new ride.
I think I saw you as I was leaving the marina(I did not know it was you fussing with the anchor or I would have def.come over to introduce and assist).Look out for you next time.
You probably have to play with the position of the winch and support bean so it clears your anchor while ramping.Good luck.        AJ.

Since I put you on a 35lb bass, I am expecting you to put me on a 12lb fluke this season  chrz

Mike, of course I owe you some trips and guarantee I will put you over at least a 12lb. fluke.  You just have to entice it to swallow your bait, set the hook and reel it to the boat.  I promise to do the same professional job of netting it and bringing it in the boat as you did with my bass.  I will even weight it for you on my scale which goes up to at least 35lbs.  Now all we have to do is find the date or dates. I usually do Tuesdays and Thursdays but do tournaments.  You are with Nick for ours and the Sandy Hook Bay T., how about doing the JCAA on 6/14 or Raritan Bay on 7/19?  You can even bring the family.
Bob
