Title: Tuna Charter
Post by: SPEEDRUG on October 28, 2007, 09:46:05 PM
Left on the big jamaica on Sat..it took us about 6 hours to hit our fishing spot and it was the most hellish ride i been on so far..4 mahis were hooked on. my buddy had the biggest of the bunch (about 20lbs). 1 guy hooked up with something that spooled him quick.. 1 keeper mako shark that got unhooked himself at the boat and 1 small swordfish.. nothing else until about were 3 yellow fins were hooked up and only 2 VFT were boarded the whole trip. They were in the 40 lb class..We left about 8am for a ride that made the ride out seem like stroll around the block..the ride in took about 9 hours..Almost everyone on the boat was getting sick..Looking forward to next year..

Were did the boat go out to? Was it just long because of the weather conditions or did you go to a southern canyon?

Not good,

To bad about the trip.  You look forward to the trip and mother nature throws you a curve ball.  Better luck next year.

Happy Catching

Paul

Try to book in September towards middle to end of month. That is supposed to be the most productive time.

My buddy likes that boat. I don't. They are notorious for not cancelling those canyon trips due to weather when everyone else does.

2 years ago, they were the only boat to sail and my buddy went out. 12' easy on the way out and way back in.
Said they fished for maybe 3 hours, no one caught anything and it took them like 10-15 hours to get back in.

Mboy hit it dead on. The Big J will, and does, sail in anything.  It sucks going to the edge and not catching, its even worse getting the crap beat out of you.
I try and do 3 trips a year. If your interested, shoot me a PM and let me know if you are interested for next year. Either a 6 pack or headboat trip.
I start looking into booking over the winter and plan around the full moons in Sept and Oct.
If anyone is interested for that matter, let me know, possibly get enough guys to do a trip with all board members.

It also sucks when the trip costs you a mini of $350 and all you do is get a crappy boat ride for 20 hours.

Yep $350 for a rough boat ride.  That's not a fun thing.
I'd rather spend the $65 or so to get into Great Adventure and jump on all of the wild rides all day to get my butt kicked.  Heck, I can then get a hotdog and pepsi afterwards.   ;D

The fun of Charters. Never know what your going to get. The Big Jamica is one of the best head boats as far as Tuna trips are concerned, just too bad it did'nt work out this time. Let me know next time your going, I'll book the same trip. My freinds wives get mad at me when I bring them fishing and they don't come home until sometime the next day.(but they eat the fish) <'((((><

It would be more fun to pay the $350 to see Joe at great adventure than a rough boat ride.
