Hard starting , stalling help
« on: August 30, 2010, 08:38:16 PM »
When I stop, for example for a drift or to get gas, I can start my engineer no problem, but when I put it in gear the engine stalls. It starts right up again, I put it in gear and it stalls.  It starts up again, no problem, but this time I give it a little more throttle and it goes - no problem. The engine runs smooth. It just the inital start up after I shut it down.   Any ideas would be apprecaited. 94 200HP Johnson Ocean Runner.

Check the shift interupptor swich on the Starboard side of the motor down below the shift linkage. It might be hanging up. Its a small switch with a pair of wires coming from it that go to the power pack. How does the motor idle?
There were carb upgrades for those motors. Also very important to do water pumps in those motors. It is a known problem of the top 2 cylinders running hot.

I will check the  shift interupptor switch.  Motor idles fine best I can tell.  I replaced the water pump and thermostat this past spring.
