Hi All,
The next stop in my quest is Brick, at the Mantoloking Bridge fishing pier.
If you haven't been by here in a while it is worth a trip especially for crabbing right now. It is easy to get to if you are traveling on Rt 35 go south past Bay Head and there is a traffic light for Herbert St, 528 toward Lakewood. turn right and go over the bridge. There is a small parking lot just to the west of the bridge and if that is full go a little further and pull into the Mantoloking Cove Marina and head east where you will find plenty of parking. From Brick Go East on Mantoloking Rd. and look for Mantoloking Cove Marina on your left you can pull into there or go a little further and park in the little road side parking area if there is room.
You can walk along the water and fish off the bulkhead or walk further and you will find a concrete walkway under the new bridge that leads to a fantastic fishing pier. Plenty of room to stretch out and fish.
There is a portable jon as the facilities on the north side of the new bridge and Pell's bait and Tackle is just down the road a bit to handle all your needs.
I met three guys that were just setting up and I hope they will be able to get on today and let me know how they did.
This spot is a diamond in the rough. Worth a try any time of year.

Hi All,
Right now they are slamming the snappers like crazy with some nice weakies thrown in.
It might be a good time to try some early evening fishing for the elusive weakfish. The area should produce some nice fish. If you try it let us know how you did.
I have noticed that this past Wed. the area has a number of families working under the bridge for crabs and doing OK, nothing spectacular by they were having fun.

fished there in early july and it sucked. i hated it. one of my worst fishing experiences ever. bought like 4 bunker and ran out in under an hour cuz of all the crabs. i actually caught 3 crabs on a fishing rod, they just hung onto the bunker while i reeled it in. the next day went surf fishing and beasted. i dont recemend it for fishing, maybe just fluke. If your going crabbing its a great stop.
-
I may be getting old, but what does BEASTED mean?
I hope it doesn't mean something like crapping in your pants because that would be bad, right? 5hrug

Hi All,
I have no clue, but gym rat does not understand the reason for the articles. Especially if fished only once.
The articles were meant to steer people to free fishing locations weather it would be used for fishing or crabbing. There are plenty of people out there who are looking for Free recreation for their families because of the expense involved. The articles point out where these locations are as so many have vanished or municipalities are charging to use them.
I have been at this location and have seen yes crabs, but also snappers, and weakfish caught there. Boats hover around the pilings of the new bridge to again catch whatever.
I hope this clears up the nature of the article at least. Whatever you catch it is still catching and having fun as a family.

Hi All,
I fish the area a lot.
It is a great location to fish and it is FREE - even the parking. That cannot be said for almost any other place in the state.
1. The NJ state record blueclaw was caught in that area last year (2006).
2. There were tons of schoolie bass under the bridge in the Spring.
3. Tons of snappers.
4. Just a little south is a great weakfish hole that all locals fish (Marker 14).
5. And yes, it holds winter flounder in that area.
6. Fluke fishing is marginal at best.
Please stop at Pell's right up the street and they will help out.
Again, Paul's articles are the first comprehensive set of information about FREE locations in the state. Frankly, this is better than anything The Fisherman or The Angler magazines have done lately.
BTW, Gymrat- ... Why are you using bunker there in July? No chance for Stripers as the water was in the 80s at that time. Storm shads work great there yearly (pearl).
Thanks Paul,
Capt. Ed
-
As with any place where you fish, you have to give the area a chance to produce. One trip can not dictate the quality of fishing at that location. I have fished many a spot that did not produce one day and it was game on the next. t^
-
What kind of bait and # line would I use for fishing off of the mantaloking bridge?
-
I bet Clams could pickup a resident striper this time of year.
-
I bet Clams could pickup a resident striper this time of year.
Possibly. There has even been talk of people catching winter flounder in the area, though I'm not exactly sure how much of those rumors to believe. Still, you never know.
-
I'll have to take a ride up there this weekend and see if anyone is catching anything.
I will post if anything is happening.
Happy Catching

This is an update on the pier. Since Friday Winter Flounder have been caught off the pier during both incoming and outgoing tides. Looks like bait of choice are either sand worms or blood worms. When a check of what they are eating there is also a lot of corn in their stomaches.
If it is over cast you might as well stay at home I have noticed that during cloud cover the bite is off, but as soon as the sun breaks through the bite starts up again.
I have seen Winter Flounder in sizes around 15 inches. So all you skeptics out there that have been putting this area down keep putting it down, more time for me and others to catch.

I may be getting old, but what does BEASTED mean?
I hope it doesn't mean something like crapping in your pants because that would be bad, right? 5hrug
According to the Teenage Dictionary, BEASTED: v; destroyed, beaten, or otherwise conquered, generally in a conspicuous or outstanding manner.
-
Anyone had any luck here recently? And what's running there now?
Hoping to get over there this week if time permits.
-
i am going out there tomorow after work. bouncing storm shads off the pilings,i will let you guys know how we did. i'm taking my daughter, while she is crabbing hopefully i can get me some weekies.
-
Hi guys I don't know about the weakies but the crabbing I hear is good and short fluke. Ken don't forger about the secondary channel off the south corner. If you can cast out to the mouth of the marina I hear that there is a decent hole there from all the boats exiting the marina and hitting the engines.
Might be worth a try.
Paul
-
i always do great there with resident bass on ultra light tackel, but someone said to me that there has been weekies there. i will let ya know. i will try that channel too. for a while this was the only place i would fish, its a great spot. thanks paul, talk to you soon.

-
our trip tonight was fun and interesting.no weekies, but croakers, croakers, croakers. i brought only ultra light tackel, and had fun with small blues. saw alot of people catching croakers though on small clam and worm bits. crabbing was great, we only had 6 keepers, forgot the pantyhose, lol. saw again though alot of big crabbs caught. saw one guy with a monster. i'm telling you this thing was the entire bottom of the bucket. my daughter was working our net and we will say it was just fun to watch. she did good though i must say. after the sun went down using a spot light we say many keepers floating by, just out of reach for our net. as the tide came to slack they were few and far between. little itty bitty ones. there was a bunch of familys out there having a great time as we did.JUST ONE THING PEOPLE..... TAKE YOUR TRASH WITH YOU. I spent about 20mins picking up peoples trash. There are trash cans out there use them...... o yeah bring bug spray.
-
Im gunna try to get down there sometime this week. Ill be in Lavallette for a week. Im leaving tomorrow morning. t^
-
Sounds like an awesome time. Nothing better than a night out with your child and having fun!!
Thanks for the report...maybe I will have to give it a try. I would love to take my son out crabbing, but he is still young and has the attention span of about 5 minutes at best. He loves fishing, but lasts for about 5 casts and then is off running around! Is the dock that runs alongside the bridge have railings?? That may be a bit easier?! 5hrug
Maybe I will just bring one drop line and the net. That way when he is done I can quick cleanup and "walk" around with him. I know he will love crabbing....he just loves running around too!
Thanks
-
yeah my daughter is 4, i know all about the attention span. and no there is no railing, the bulk head is up about a foot or so though. the pier has a railing, too high for a drop line.
-
Ohhhhh yeah!! Crabbing might be a dad and mom trip with my son. Maybe on a day we can find someone to watch our 2 month old. My son has no fear and will go right in the water. He thinks the bay, inlet, ocean, etc...are a big pool and that he can jump right in(the only downfall to getting him so used to and comfortable with water already)! When he stands on the wall at the Inlet, I have to hold onto him tight.
Thanks for the info...much appreciated!
TT^
-
As far as the night crabbing use a good bright adjustable spot light find the big ones and keep the light right in front of them moving the beam ever so closer to you and before you know it it will be in your net.
Did it all the time as a kid in Seaside Park growing up. Pretty Cool... t^

no problem, thats what this place is about. we will be doing another night on ibsp in a few weeks your more than welcome to join us kids included. will post it up in surf form soon.

Thanks, I will keep an eye out for it!

-
yeah we were doing that tonight paul works great.i never really fished there in the day time, i saw that channel you spoke of, looks great. hey by the way there is a large hole in the fence just before the bridge, a woman crashed threw it last week just missing the marinas fuel pumps.i guess she needed gas.
-
Wow, that would really have messed things up around there.
-
i was told its real chopsy there today, but i think i am still gonna head out in a bit. drop my comercial traps under the bridge for some crabbys, and see if i can get some snappers and croakers on ultra light tackel. feelin a lil lazy today, but dying to fish. i will let ya's know.
-
nice night out there, no wind. there was alot of people on the pier. people crabbing under and around the bridge. no fish................ not even a bite,i threw everything i had at them. there was bunker there, stacked thick at times too. nothing hitting on them. it wasnt just me either, there was about 10 dudes livelining peanuts,no fish for them either. i did manage to catch someones lost drop line and red two door crab trap, both were keepers. if anyone on here lost them hit me up and i can return them, lol. have to say there are some big crabs there, was watching them swim around under the pier.
-
I have never been crabbin at night. I am gonna have to give this thing a shot!!
-
Were there still people crabbing off of the fishing pier when you got there?? I was there around 5pm or so and the crabbing bulkhead was packed and the pier was dead. It is just quite a drop off the pier to crab effectively...BUT there were 2 guys with bigger size traps, around 5 each, and lots of line. They were doing real well. Nice bunch of crabs they had!!
What time were you fishing....I noticed everything stopped in the bay last night right as it got dark...no crabs and no fish! The crabs were devouring bunker from 6:30-8:45 and then like magic...they were gone. Even throwbacks. Not one bite!
-
i got out there around 10:00 and stayed until about 2am. there wasnt anyone crabbing from the pier but everywhere else.even when i left there was still people crabbing.
-
i will be heading out to the bridge later on this afternoon, weather permitting. i'm taking my daughter and "x" crabbing and bait fishing.i am going to set them up with blood worms, see what happens. mabey i will run into some of you there. post report tonight.
-
I was there teh 23rd and 24th. 23rd was way too rough didnt catch anything. the 24th was better, i was using sprearing for fluke but kept getting snapper blues. Either I would catch one in the 6-8" range or get half the spearing back. There were a lot of crab caught while I was down there.
-
mabey i will try that would like to get some snappers for rocket shots for friday night. thanks

Too funny!! hhppy
I usually get snappers on small kastmasters or something I refer to as a "Spearing Rig." Anyone else heard of these or ever used one??? No one I ever talk to knows what I am talking about. I used them when I was younger and can't even find them locally. They work great when the small snappers are stealing bait. I am attaching a pic of one I found from a wholesaler online. It is basically an inline spinner with an additional piece of wire that you slide through the spearing and out the back of the bait. A double hook keeps the spearing on the wire. Very effective!!
-
I fished the bridge from 7:00 until 9:30 and got skunked. Tons of people crabbing with some pretty nice sized crabs. I fish there about once a week and all i've got from the beginning of the season is one snapper. The only thing i've seen come over the sides has been one kingfish. I don't really know why i keep coming back here other than the convenience. I started using a castmaster until i trapped a few killies. I later switched to a 1/4 topwater plug. Not one bite. Any pointers?
-
Not one bite. Any pointers?
What are you looking to catch?? Anything that will bite? Snappers? Weakfish?
-
I realize the weakfish haven't really moved in yet, but i put baits out to entice just about anything. Recently i've used fishbites, live killies, and gulp strips cut 2-3" on a #4 hook. I'm using light tackle (shimano 7' 1/4-3/4, shimano sahara 4000, maxima 8# line) Yesterday I tried targeting weakfish but i'm just looking to set a hook into something other than the crab that came off the piling to snatch my killie.
-
I WILL BE GIVING THE SHARKS A REST TODAY AND BE HEADEING OUT THIS AFTERNOON TO THE BRIDGE. TAKING MY LITTLE GIRL OUT CRABBING. HOPEFULLY SHE GET GET ME SOME DINNER. IF ANYONE IS OUT THERE TODAY AND YOU SEE ME MAKE SURE YOU SAY HI.

Sorry, somehow I missed your reply. As far as lures for snappers and blues, kastmasters or small silver lures work great. So do spearing rigs if you can find them anywhere. Weakfish, the key seems to be any plastic bait in PINK. Fin-S in 4" or 5" or Gulp Pink Swimming Mullet on an appropriate weight jig head. Also gulp shrimp. If you read these articles, it should give all the info you need for weakfish.
http://njsaltwaterfisherman.com/forums/index.php?topic=7770.0
There is really no definite answer for bait. You just need to give them all a shot or read reports to see what it really catching fish. Everything you mentioned sounds good. I have never used fishbites, but have heard good about it. I am not much of a bait user, so I tend to go with lures and plastics 99% of the time.
Hope this helped a bit!?
Good Luck!!

I just keep moving if that first lot is full. It gets pretty packed in there but most people crabbing tend to favor the north side.
When you guys talk about the marina channel on the south side, how are you guys reaching? I've thrown close to 1 oz. on my medium rod and only hit the end of the pilings coming towards the bulkhead. The area usually has a a south wind making it even harder to reach.
-
I've given up on the parking lot along the road and just head to the marina parking. It's usualy full anyway. And it's easier and safer to pull in and out of the marina.
-
Last time i pulled into the lot at the marina and some guy working there gave me a hard time about parking there . Told me to be out by 9 but hung out til about 10. On my way out i noticed a sign saying parking from dawn to dusk only 5hrug

just returned home a lil bit ago. what a night at the bridge. people everywhere, omg the place was packed. i actually had to break up a fight that was happening in the street between to moterists. first made the 911 call, then broke up the fight. i came real close to slamming this drunk dude myself. he was all drunk, started on a couple in there car. then it got ugly. the drunk dude layed out the boyfriend and then started on the girl, i couldnt let it go. the cops came the drunk was arrested the boyfriend was taken by ambulance, and we ended up with 14 keepers. i'm tired and going to eat. talk more soon

Nice catch!! Never fails...always end up doing something besides fishing while your out!

-
went out to the bridge tonight.tons of bait everywhere.tide was out,and water was pretty calm. tried my luck with plastics, nodda.threw my whole bag of tricks at them. pink fin-s. pink fin-s wanna a be gulp, storm shads in every size down to the two inch ones. nothing. my good buddy rick paddled over and gave me some blood worms. he was out in the yak. fish on.... short sea bass, croakers, oyster crackers, ect. bait stole the show for me tonight. they were all small fish, but it was fun on ultra light tackel.
-
Sweet nice going. I tried the surf this morning at Ortley just Sea Robing but the strange thing I caught it on a top water plug. 5hrug

New to saltwater fishing.. I too was at the bridge early evening and caught a fish like yours in the 2nd image (044). What is that one? Can't seem to find a picture online that matches (though I haven't tried that hard yet either).

The second picture is that of a sea bass. Minimum size is 12" to keep. Can keep 25 per day. Excellent table fare. t^

Thank you.. I have been trying to compare with the pics from the may guide showing the different saltwater fish but it doesn't look the same with the stripes..

Hey Rk.. Welcome to the site. t^
Thank you Hotrod for the welcome. Been looking through a lot of sites trying to find out "how to fish" or at least ideas how to catch fish and came across this one. I live down the road from the bridge and have had limited success there. Hopefully that changes as time (and experience) progress. One day I hope to do surf fishing from Brick 1 or 3.. next step in my education
-
Welcome RK! Lots of people on the list that fish Mantaloking Bridge, PP Canal and Mansquan Inlet. Also good amount of people that surf fish in the Central to Northern OC Area.
Good Luck.

-
the one with stripes=kingfish?
-
Looks like a croaker mouth though...with kingfish stripes, right?? Maybe they crossbred?? Could just be the juvenile markings of the croaker 5hrug.
TT^
-
its a fish and i caught it,lol. this is getting funny. we have seabass, kingfish, croaker inbreed, anyone else.lol.
-
Definitely had a croaker mouth, which is quite different from a kingfish. Haven't seen thick stripes like that on them before, but it could be because they are still younger fish. It does look very similar to kingfish markings though...I vote again for a Barnegat Bay crossbreed/inbred croaker rofla!
TT^
-
What pic are you guys talking about, #1? I was referring to pic #2.
-
Yes, Capt Joe. What do you think #2 is??
5hrug
-
Looks just like a seabass to me. The mouth, scales, shape, etc. Would like to see the tail to be absolutely positive, but I've seen enough to be 99.9% positive. TT^
Can't really say that I have seen a kingfish, so I could not identify one of them. ;D
-
OK, my bad, I meant to type #1...fat fingers ;D. I agree #2 is a seabass...How about #1??

And the answer is...
Wait for it...
KINGFISH!

Welcome Aboard RKLindner,
You will find out that the more you fish the more your odds are that you will catch a fish. One big piece of advice I can give is patience, patience and more patience.
Try tried and true methods and learn by listening to what others have done to alter those methods and have caught fish. One thing what caught fish today does not mean it will catch fish tomorrow, but something real close will. Learn to experiment with what you have by changing colors, bait, speed of retrieval and anything else that could make the presentation seem just a little different.
Do not be afraid to ask questions that is what we are here for. Good Luck
Happy Catching

Thank you (also Pfishingruven) for the welcome here. I have also fished lakes before so I do understand the patience part! ::) I enjoy fishing for the relaxation and the thrill when you do get one on the line. My partner and I will get a dozen killies from the local b&t and go spend an hour or so after dinner. Guess with it getting dark earlier, I'm going to need to make that before dinner or bring a flashlight. I'm sure I'll meet someone from here soon down there.

Well, after deciding not to take the boat out today, me and my dad went over to the bridge with a box of worms and my arsenal of artificials.
Fished off of the bridge from 1400-1630. Using sandworms on a hi-lo with #2 baitholder hooks, we managed to land 11 sea bass to 10", two blackfish (10", 11") three small kingfish, one bluefish, three short porgies and a spot. Had a great time while not getting anything for the table. sorry, no pics.

Those tog were a big surprise. Really put a bend in my 7' medium shimano with 8# mono. Thought it was a monster porgy cause it just kept pulling down. ;D

great job cappy. i love little fish on super light tackle. i use an ultra light set up there most of the time with 15lb braid, its a blast. i want to get one of those micro shiamo set ups though. gthe rod is like mabey 5 foot and the reel is the size of a golf ball. it could be fun with a 28inch bass, lol.
-
Hi Ya'all,
I just checked one of my Ultra Lights i used for freshwater and it is a Shakespeare 4' 6" SP 46-1UL with a Shakespeare LXul reel with what looks like 4# test mono. I caught some real nece Large Mouth with this outfit.
I guess I will have to give it a try in salt one day over at the bridge.

Fished off of the bridge from 1400-1630.
Wish I could get there at that time during the week but my boss wouldn't like it! I have been told by the "boss" that she wants to go tomorrow nite, so maybe I'll see some of you there after work.
-
I was thinking about heading down to the bridge after work tomorrow.
Has anyone been there recently or know if there's anything going on.
I'm just trying to figure out if it's worth my trip down there.
-
Drove by the Bridge today! About 5 people fishing, but I don't know if they were catching.
Good Luck!

Anyone know if anything is biting there now or what you think would be hitting. Im thinking of going down there on Sunday. Thanks.

I would think that the general mix of bottom fish are still holding around there.

Im thinking of going down there on Sunday. Thanks.
Don't know if you went but I haven't seen many people fishing there the times I go by (make that 1 car parked in lot over 3 days). Hard to tell if there is anything there or not but at least it wouldn't be crowded

there is bass there pulled two shorts the other night. bait was everywhere and schoolie bass were popping on them like crazy.

Questions about flounder:
Can they be caught here?
When is the best time?
What should I use?
Anything else I need to know?
I'm looking to broden my fishing horizens by trying to catch as many different species as possible this year and this would be a good place to start. Thanks in advance.

I think you have as good of a chance at the Mantoloking Bridge as you do anywhere else from shore. The only thing that is difficult to achieve from shore that is much more effective by boat is chumming, but I have seen it done. There was a guy years back who would chum up the Inlet/River around the bend by the park there. He was very successful and so was everyone else who fished nearby him. You had to fight for a spot anywhere near him.
Check out the front page article. It basically sums it up. Light tackle will do the trick. Setups are very basic. You don't need anything heavy duty at all. Clam or bloodworms work well for bait. I have used squid strips too before.
Good Luck!
TT^
-
Fished the bridge 3 times this past week and here are the reports:
Tuesday July 14, 2009: Used squid strips and spearing from 10:00 am until about noon and caught one short fluke about 14".
Wednsday July 15, 2009: Used squid strips and spearing from 10:00 am until about 1:00 pm and caught nothing.
Friday July 17, 2009: Used squid strips and spearing from 9:30 am until about 12:30 pm and caught 4 short fluke. One super short at 8", two around 14", and one real nice 17.5".
Heres some cell phone pix, also besides the fluke I caught about 10-15 crabs on my rod. The ones that were keepers I gave to some guys crabbing around me.

Nice going gymrat...Glad you are still trying that spot. I think the more you use it the more you will find the holes around it. Plus night fishing off it and fishing the shadows is also good. Just use the light to your advantage the fish will be in the shadows.

This is an excellent spot to fish light tackle. You can catch weakies, stripers, blues, fluke and flounder. With tons of crabs. It is the time and season you fish it is what you will catch. A fun place to fish
Tight Lines

Welcome Tossinplugs,
I agree as it is one of the spots that is easy access and fisherman friendly. ZI like it in the mid Spring as the water heats up pretty fast back there.
Maybe I will see you there as I often try to make it there a few times a year.

Fished the bridge this morning for about 2 hours starting around 9:30. I was using squid strips and spearing and caught nothing. I did however get a couple small bites that would rip my bait off right before the hook, I'm guessing those were snappers? I'll be bringing my ultra light tackle next time I go.
-
Fished the bridge for about an hour this afternoon using spearing. Didn't catch anything but the snappers were ripping my bait apart. They're still kinda small though, maybe 3 or 4 inches. Tight lines guys.

The rumor of flounder is out...Heard from a buddy that the bridge was PACKED today. Good thing there are plenty of other spots nearby ;)
-
the bridge was PACKED today.
That's not good. I was going to give it a shot on Saturday.
-
yeh surprised me too. Usually on a weekday its empty. Cant imagine what the first nice weekend will do to that spot...let the combat fishing begin ::)
-
a few years back I had my boat at the Mantoloking Marina (believe its called brick municipal marina now)right next to the bridge. That spot was ALWAYS packed!
-
Ahh, there's no fsh there anyway...

I forget that this is really the only time of year that I fish daylight hours. There are not TOO many places that are packed at a 3am tide ;)

daylight hours will soon not exist in our world of fishing ;D t^

Amen to that! slt

Anyone know what happened here? I drove by to see a fence around it and a no tresspassing sign. I was hoping to fish here today or tomorrow but I guess I need to find another place now.

Hopefully is was just to keep people off the pier during the storm.
But they are building that new park there, so it could have something to do with that.
-
A new park has been built at this location with upgrades to the existing facilities. It's a great improvement. t^
The upgrades include a large paved parking lot, permanent restroom facilities, benches, picnic tables, canopies, new walkways, a new 50ft dock on the north side, all new bulkheads with boardwalk and rails. There are fish cleaning stations with running water in two locations. The existing fishing pier (old bridge) has been resurfaced and a canopy and table added. The area on the south side on bridge now has a bulkhead and walkway.
It's a great improvement to a prime fishing a crabbing spot in the area. And increases the functionality of the space and the usable space.
-Work is still ongoing to the marina portion of the project, but that has no effect on the park portion.

Is there a gas dock just to the south (right if on it)? I think I met Don from Cannyon Reels there for a reel swap once. The crabbing is good there?
-
Not sure about a gas dock, I take my truck to the Wawa ::)
Crabbing around the bridge is typically pretty good. Aside from land based crabbing, a decent number of boats usually anchor just to the north of the bridge for crabbing.

Ok, I think thats the one. I actually did the same thing in the winter looking for some winter flounder but caught nothing but crabs that day.

Winter flounder hot spot ;)

How did this spot hold up during the storm? I haven't been down there since the summer but I've seen pictures of the area and it wasn't good. Anyone been here recently?
-
I drive over the bridge daily its not not same at all.....Its not just that the homes are gone on the East side.....But the water around the bridge is not the same.
The East side of the bridge had a depth of 3-4 feet of water.....Today you can walk around or under the bridge with knee boots and not get wet.
Plus all 20 homes that are gone are now in the water under the bridge.....The water is clear and you can see things everything......Its not just the homes in the water its everthing that was in the house and garage that's in the water.....
Its something you really need to see.....entire homes just sitting in the bay like the one on Lyman ave in Mantoloking......The entire house with the deck still on it.....sitting 150 yards off the land in the bay.
There are a couple Lagoons that where 6-8 feet deep that are filled in with sand.....No water just sand......Docks you can walk around.......Its Bad.

that was one of my fav spots to fish at night:(

I would recommend you just take the drive from Point Pleasant down Rt.35 to Seaside.
You can see all the pictures you want....But to see it with your own eyes its mind blowing.
The Island was my home for 48 year's and I drove Rt.35 to work for the past 30 year's.....There is not much along the ride to work that looks the same.
From the water its even more upsetting to see.....lagoons with boats that cant exit because of the sand that filled in.....docks with no water around them.....boats sunk.....cars in the water....areas I fished with the yak I can walk and not get wet.....
The coast line has changed.....The water way has changed.....The beach has changed....The entire landscape of the Island has changed...
So as for fishing as we knew it back in the fall and in year's past.....Has changed.
I'm looking forward to fishing to get my mind off the rebuilding of my home.....The problem is where ever I look its all the same.....A real mess.

Is everything open to the public down that way?
-
Many of the side streets are still closed off from Bay Head down to Mantalokin. Police cars are positioned along many streets but if you want to get a real feel of the devastation you do not have to go down the side streets. It is not the same and in my mind will never be the same.
Like Dave mentioned, the bay has been altered and will probably stay that way for many years to come. I live in Toms River and have been up and down Rt. 35bv many times and I still can not believe what I see.
Many will ride past areas that they have seen in the papers but, unless you live here the devastation is so surreal it is almost non comprehensible. I know many people that can not even find their homes let alone pick up the pieces and fix up.
If I get a chance this week I will take some more shots of some of the fishing places to show you all what Dave, Kayak-1 is talking about.
Happy Catching

Thanks Paul, that would be great. I guess we got off pretty lucky here up north.

Has anyone fished the Mantaloking Bridge recently? Wondering if it would be worth anchoring up and trying for blackfish on the bridge pilings.
