Title: Roosters Flukin 7-28-16
Post by: Peterooster on July 28, 2016, 06:48:43 PM
Tom and I like to stop at the breakwater at Atlantic Highlands Harbor before heading out to our favorite Fluke grounds, perhaps it was the wrong tide but no fish were caught here.

Stopping at the Sandy Hook Channel near buoy 15 I latched onto my first Cownosed Ray of this season and brought it boat side after a mighty struggle which about wore me out. After not finding any keeper Fluke here we headed out to the ocean. Fishing along the beach landing Dog fish and Skates a move was made to some numbers that we hadn’t fished in years. About one and a half miles South of the nude beach in 29 feet of water I caught our first keeper Fluke at about 19”. Working this area over with one other boat nearby Tom landed his limit up to 20”. One keeper for me was all I could do along with plenty of Sea Robins, Clearnose Skates, and those troublesome dog fish which like to tangle my lines. Two oz. of weight is all that is needed to hold bottom in the light South wind and occasional fog. Seas were light and water very clear. Pete

I was at Flynn's Knoll on Wednesday, the 27th and also hooked into a cow's nose ray.  I battled him for almost a hour.  Then I went down to almost the nude beach and caught a keeper.

Those cow's nose rays really wear you out.
