Title: Hello new friends
Post by: The Heavy Chicken on February 04, 2013, 09:35:30 PM
This is my first post here, just stopping in to introduce myself. My name is Jared I am from Erie Pennsylvania. I am an avid walleye and king salmon fisherman, on lake Erie and lake Ontario. The reason for my lurking on your site is I am considering purchasing a large center console boat, and I am shopping for a place for it to call home. I currently own asport craft hard top set up for great lakes trolling. I lived in Florida for a while and got hooked on deep ocean fishing. Iam considering NJ because of the under 8 hour drive for me and from what I have seen so far, good variety of fish species. If anyone here has any advice, comments, or concerns I'm all ears.

Sounds like you might have a good selection of boat for NJ waters already. Where and what do you plan on fishing for? The AC boat show is this week.

Ideally I would like to fish once a month. I have never fished off of jersey and have been scouring the web looking for information. If anybody is interested in swapping hunts so to speak I would love to make it offshore and would be more than generous in the fuel bill. I have to offer great lakes fishing and phenomenal white tail or turkey hunting.

As far as already having a good boat for nj waters.  My sportcraft lacks the fuel capacity to make the canyon runs I so desire. LOL. That and the spleen to outrun upcoming weather. The boats I am looking at are an Everglades 290 pilot with twin Honda 225s and a Sea Fox 287 pro series with twin Suzuki four stroke 250s , the 100k price diference has me thinking sea fox, no wood, unsinkable hull, lifetime hull warranty and a nice dry ride I'm not sure I can justify the top of the line everglades. But damn they are a nice machine.

Maybe some of you "locals" can give me some advise, another idea I have been kicking around is rather than docking the boat, I would like to find a small tract of rural land, say within 30 to 40 minutes of the coast to build a large garage with an apartment on top. Store the boat and avoid hotels. Trailering shouldn't be a problem with a 28 cc but I wouldn't want to bring it all the way from home every time. Any advice on good areas, cheap land? Don't need much but rural enough to not have it be a Huge deal if the lawn only gets mowed once a month. A garage in the woods is kinda the end goal.

There's too much to be said for doing it on your own. I make some of my own rods, lures, and if I had the aptitude I'd build the damn boat LOL..... When I say cheap I mean relative to oceanfront. I would expect to pay 20 to 25 an acre for.unimproved land in a small (less than 3 acres) lot. But land is an investment. And I own a construction company so building can be done relativly affordably.

It's ok... I am sure you'll want to get out on my boat this year for some shark or BFT. We can bond again then.

I would respond to the add. And gladly chip in for gas, what kind of beer should I bring? Or perhaps some homebrew hooch?

I travel light on the beer on my own boat. A bunch of us are always posting trips though.

There are always people looking for people for additional crew. Some are the sponosrs some are the members. I regularly look for people however, my boat is not a cannyon machine.
