Title: Whole Mackeral

anybody use whole mackeral as bait from the surf or even mackeral sides....if so for what specie of fish

Strip mackeral for fluke. Whole for shark. But I fish from a boat, no more land fishing for me.  TT^

Mackeral cut or stripped makes a great bait but most surf fisherman in my area focus on fresh baits as it makes a huge difference.Fresh bunker, cut into chunks, heads is what the bass are eating. Fresh clams is also very popular because the bass  see them all the time.If you have some in your freezer bring it along you will catch blues and fluke usually. Salted to toughen it up and cut in strips will catch many early fluke in the inlet if they are there but most are under 18" size limit.  ;D

I've used them for Fluke,but have better results with squid,blue strips,Killies,bunker etc.
