I spooled some of this up for a customer today. Although I'm not a huge fan of the fused Fireline (it's OK, I guess), this new line seems like it may be worth a try. t^
Any of you had a chance to try this out yet?

Bob, do you know what is different about it that makes it 'new'?

Joe,
What's new here is that the original Fireline is not a true braid. It is actually made by using an extrusion process in which many polyethylene strands are thermally fused together. If you notice, Berkley does not market Fireline as a braid. It is often referred to as a "superline".
If you compare a length of Fireline against some Power Pro or Sufix you can easily see the difference. Original Fireline is not round and, in fact, you will notice many flat spots in it. It also feels stiffer than the true braids.
Berkley (Pure Fishing) has made a number of true braided lines over the years. They include Gorilla Braid (one of the first), Big Game Braid and Whiplash. They now also manufacture braids under the Spiderwire and Stren brands.
So who knows? This could be one of Pure Fishing's many other braided lines just recycled using the Fireline name, or it could be something truly new.
In any case, I may have to try some out for myself. ;D

I LOVE the original Fireline. A bit wirey at first, but breaks in quick and nice.
30# stuff is way under-rated in it's strength and to compare it to another brand(braid) like Powerpro, you have to go against 50#PP.
Not a true braid as mentioned, but has all the same benefits.
The new Fireline BRAID is suppose to be much closer to it's actual ratings.

I tried the original Fireline on a few reels and did not like the way it performed;it seemed so limp and wirey. Never got any better !! 5hrug
