Title: Transducer mounting
Post by: Reckless on March 19, 2009, 07:06:04 AM
I have read about where to mount. But I think experience beats all the literature out there. I am replacing my FF. In this picture you can see where the old one is mounted. Everything I have read this isnt a good spot. I was thinking I would be better more towards the center. Any suggestions greatly appreciated!!

From what I can see..  that looks like the best spot for your Set up.  and closer you may get turbulence.. as Capt Bob mentioned..  But if you ask me.. that one seems a little low..

I agree with Rod.. Not sure why they would not recommend that spot.. It appears to be deep enough not to come out when she's rockin or on plane.. and unless there is a keel there I can't see, I don't see anything that would create a bubble trail to interfere.. Bottom line to me is that unless you where having performance or interference problems with the old 'ducer in  this location, why change?

I was having trouble. Get any speed up and it would loose bottom. I thought it might be better if I went closer to center. grtn

From your pic that looks like the textbook spot.  Any closer to the prop may cause cavitation.  You may just have to try it and move it back if it doesn't work.

Spot location is definitely good, thats where you want it, but its absolutely too low, bottom of the ducer should be level or  1/8 below  the flat spot of your hull, if theres a slight angle upward its ok. If theres too much of an angle either upward or downward your going to have shim it up to get as close to level of the bottom of your hull. I think you just need to raise the ducer and you'll be fine. I didn't need to shim mine.

If you want more info on mounting it go to furuno's website and you should be able to find info about installing transducers.
