Guys are always coming to me to see how we install fishfinders. I usualy show them one done already. Saturday I have to install a couple so figured if anyone wants to see it done I will start at 10am.

Thanks for the invite!! Wish I could be there to see how the pro's do it but I have "prior commitments" and can't attend. Do take some pics so we can see how you do it...

Pics of the installation would be great. Can get them out to everyone that way. t^

Nothing fancy I just have some shortcuts that make it quiker. I connect wires with a trick I learned on the Hull Truth. You simply place a shrink tube over the wire and twist the ends together. Fold the twisted wires away from the shrink tube. Then smear some 5200 over the bare wires tips and down the insulation a bit. Pull the shrink tube over the bare ends and center. Then shrink with a heat gun until the 5200 oozes out the ends. No special fittings needed and you end up with a 100% waterproof permanent connection.

Pretty clever means to get a water tight connection. I have a bunch of electronics I have to hook up and I might give that a try.
Thanks for sharing. t^

uh, gents... I used the heat shrink on my FF install - made for a very clean job! is "5200" a dielectric grease?
-
Yep, used to use it on power transistors along with the silicon insulator. It also helped to dissipate the heat better.
-
5200 is a marine adhesive/sealant. When it dries its hard to cut with a knife.

Barrell, be careful with that stuff. It has some nasty chemicals in it - diisocyanates, and xylene and toluene. Use w/ a respirator or in a well ventilated area, and don't get it on your skin.
