Title: Best boat cleaning supplies??
Post by: mboy on May 28, 2007, 01:16:13 PM
Lets hear some favorites to clean:

Hull- polish, wax, etc both hull, top and gunwales.

Vinyl cleaner and restorer (mainly for boat cushions and stuff

Fabric cleaner (for bimin tops, etc.

Need to stock up on some stuff.

As far as bilge cleaner goes, just some some into bilge (front or rear area) and let it slosh around for few days, then hose out?

Any other cleaning tips would be appreciated.

Hi Mboy,

By far, the best way to care for the hull (inside and out is):

1. Collinite 920 Cleaner/Restorer.
2. right after the above, apply Collinite 925 (I used to use 3M resorter/wax but the two step process works much better).
3. For non-skid decks (and decking in general) Woody Wax.
4. Vinyl restorer I use West Marine.
5. For anything the Collinite 920 cannot get out, I use Interlux Heavy Duty Stain remover.
6. I use accetone to clean the rubber rub rails.
7. Orpine for the boat cleaner.
8. Bilge cleaner - West Marine or just about any brand. Yes, you pour it in and let in drain naturally through the bilge pump after sloshing around.
9. I use Flitz for stainless.

A few words of advice:

1. I do not screw around with the bimini top much. I have a bimini boot when not deployed. I open the top up at least once and week and rinse it off with water.

2. Do everything you can to avoid getting mld on your vinyl. Once that happens, there is nothing that will clean it. Most people get mold by putting their cusions and such in plastic bags (non-breathable - especially over the winter). Do yourself a favor and do not store anything vinyl in sealed plastic.

That should get you started ...

Rod,
Bill may be persuaded to do a small job, clean/wax hull and paint the bottom.  He is a very busy guy but may take on a job if he can fit it in his schedule.  I can check with him as needed
