Title: New Yak will be home in a couple of days.
Post by: ped579 on April 14, 2009, 02:34:16 PM
Just talked to Jersey Paddler and they said the kayak will be ready probably by Thursday.  I'm thinking Friday we'll see.

Either way it will be good just to have it in the garage.  I am looking forward to christening it very soon.

Dave, I can just about hear the water lapping up against the hull now.

I picked up a few more plugs so I think I am ready to go.  I just hope all the rest of the stuff I ordered will be there as well.  Like the PFD and other stuff.

I am both excited and nervous at the same time it is strange.  I guess because it is not only me in the kayak but all the equipment as well.  I guess I have to figure out the tethering once I get the kayak home and where everything will be going.

Happy Catching

Paul

WoW.... Paul that is great news about your kayak I would just take the kayak out a couple times before fishing with it just to get a good feel for how the kayak handels....

I would take it out in no more then waist deep water.... that way if you flip you can stand up again..... just get a good feel on how far you can lean side to side.....

then you can feel much better after you have all your gear on the kayak....and enjoy fishing and nothing other then fishing..... have fun Paul you deserve it.

Great news Paul...the wait will be worth it I'm sure.
Can't wait to see the pictures of that new ride and get the fishing reports as well  t^

I'm sure Thursday seems like a month away.

Got a name picked out for her?

Keep us posted.

Kenny.......

Thanks guys...

I bought a Hobie Quest.

My reasons are a little complicated as I have 2 artificial hips and a slight mobility problem.  I tried a mess of boats and this was the most comfortable of them all.  It is 13' long with a 28" beam.  It has food pegs as opposed to notches and it was the easiest to get into for me.

I bought it up at Paddlesport 2009 so I got a 20% discount on the boat and 15% on accessories not bad.

I did not like the Mirage drive as the hips could not tolerate the position the legs have to be in even with a tilted back seat.

My best advice is to try everything out there to make sure you are comfortable.  If not it will make for an expensive planter for the wife.

I did spend a lot of money for the whole package but it will be worth it as I plan to use it a lot so the easier it is for me to handle by myself the better.

The full package is the boat, rudder, Fish Finder package, extra rod holder up front, the Thule Hullavator to make it easy to load and unload plus a PFD that is manually inflatable.    know I am forgetting something but you get the idea.

I hope this helps.

Happy Catching

Paul

Yeah, I know Joe.  I talked to the guy that is doing the install come to find out he lives on Pelican Island about a mile nad a half away from the house.  While I was talking to him he was looking at Google and picking out fishing locations so I started to give him a few locations and what to look for he was surprised to find locations he never knew about before.

Maybe I will get it sooner, I think not, but we'll see.

AS far as the name for it, Joe are you ready for this, how about the "Polish Navy"... slt

grtn  Pelican Island, ya say.  Maybe, our marines will storm the beach, capture him and get his arse to work today?  Maybe, call in the Polish Navy and have them shell the sh*t out of Pelican Island with 16 inch shells, until he gets to work?  Maybe, have our Air Force fast movers zooooom Pelican Island until he gets out of bed and gets to work?  Maybe, ask the US Army to make him breakfast?  Maybe ask our USCG to escort him to work?  Maybe, a combination of all of the above?  "Gator Dun ya Pelican Island bottom  dweller!  "Move it!  Move it!  Move it!"  Maybe, tell the owner of the shop, you'll probably pay him next week, maybe?  You wanna test drive her for at least a week or more before you give up your dablooms!  Paul, whats the name of this shop?  ... 'Slower Than A Turtle Yak Sales'?  Whose the Manager of this shop:  Junior Samples (recent graduate of the Idi Amin school of gracious living and yak sales techniques)?  I suspect if I or any member of this forum worked like him, none of us would have ever held a job for more than a day, even in NJ!  I'm not surprised at all to read this man was surprised to find locations he never knew aboout before, maybe, you could show him on the map where his place of work his, he probably would be surprised with that location as well?    hhppy  (disassembling soap box)

"Polish Navy" & NJ = Perfect Together!  I Love it!  Great Name Paul!

Just so everyone knows Poland does have a Navy and their fleet consists of 53 boats and ships.  Not bad for a small country.

Cograts, Paul!! I am truly glad to hear about the soon to be delivered boat! You are gonna love it!
Like Dave said - take it easy 'till you get comfortable in it. In that boat though it won't take long at all!!!

I know how you feel.  I've been waiting three weeks for my new yak to get here.  I spent a ton (a ton to me anyway) on this thing and I got everything that I need sitting in the garage but the boat.  I got an Ocean Kayak Prowler Trident 13.

Hi Vito,

Congrats on the new almost here kayak.  They are putting all the stuff I ordered on so all I have to do is go pick it up.

Well the waiting is over for me I get to pick mine up in the morning.  The roof rack has been reqady and waiting for what seems like a long time.  I bought the Thule Hullavator to make things a lot easier.

I look at it this way the weather has been in the toilet so I would not really get to use it anyway.  At least I don't have to stare at it and sulk over not being able to go out and use it.

Happy Catching

I got out on the lake twice now on it and it's great.  I messed up my shoulder so while putting it on my roof for the first time it slid off and took out my mirror! I'm still trying to get used to being on it so moving around to get to my gear has been a little tough to get used to, probably cause I'm fat. Once I feel comfortable enough, and get a gps, I'm going to take it in the bay.  The only thing I didn't like is when I was unwrapping the yak, the side handle broke.  I didn't even get to sit in it yet! Cabella's is supposed to be sending me a new one asap.
