Just wanted to see if the price of Killies is varying with Location.. So If you can quote the price(any size) and what bait shop.. Maybe we can help each other save a few bucks?? Just a thought??
-
sold out everywhere I went. I have a great spot up north to catch my own, but haven't been there in a while. It might be the only way to get quality size killies at this time. If everyone is sold out, when they do get them, we will be paying high price for small killies.
-
Hi All,
There is a general problem getting killies/minnows. The bait folks say it is water temperature. Who knows?
We will see what the price is when they are finally available.
Best wishes,
Capt. Ed

buy a 30 foot siene net and go out at low tide ,I take a bucket w/ a lid and drill 1/2 inch holes in it after I net them I dump all in the bucket and the small ones can swim out ,I have benn getting a quart ever 2 pulls wich takes about 10 min.
-
Here in the Ocean City area as soon as they get minnows they are sold out. $8 a pint. That is when they get them. I have heard the same thing they can't catch them. I don't know about that. A good friend of mine is catching his own and having no problem. His got a 5 gal. bucket that he keeps about 4 or 5 pts on hand at all times.
-
Last Tuesday bought a pint at Julians in the highlands 11 dollars for a pint, 5.50 for half pint 16.50 for 1 keeper on that trip.
-
I picked up some killies yesterday for some sea bass fishing.
Stopped at the Tackle Box on Rt 36 in Hazlet. $5 for a 1/2 pint :o. $10 for a pint :o :o and $20 for a quart :o :o :o
I don't fish killies that much. Just for sea bass and when I go fluking from the Spy House pier or the inlet just to the west of there.
Anyone else remember when the fluke boats would provide killies for bait.
I used to love pulling a seine net as a kid. Nothing like fresh jumbo local spearing.
-
what do the party boats supply for fluke now-a-days...
-
I believe only squid. Anything else, you bring yourself.
-
I'd rather use jumbo spearing, smelt or fresh blue fish strips then killie this time of year ANY day.
Give my peanuts and snappers late summer early fall.
My biggest fluke last summer was on a gulp shrimp.
of all time (8 of my biggest all time fluke) all on fresh long bluefish strips.

how many killies in a pint? I trap my own and have a homemade livewell (55 gallon drum) in the basement complete with filter.I use 3 traps and there are no shortage of killies near giant stadium and these killies are tough. i guess they have to be considering the water I get them from! HAAH If any of you live near me in Lyndhurst, send me an email and Ill share some spots to trap with you.
-
You mean walk into the bay at low tide for the killies or walk into the ocean ? Obviously the bay right, and where specifically ?
Thanks

One of my favoriate spots is right behind the the gogo bar, I think its called Stiletto's. Put 2 traps in with bread, wait 10 minutes, and have hundreds of Killies, some almost 3"
-
yea, the whole meadowlands is a gold mine for killies. I get em at 4" most of the time. These are hearty fish that I dump into colder water at home and they dont even blink. Try doing that with any other fish and it will go into shock. Any little stream has em. Rte 7 in south kearny has jumbos all along in the swamps.
-
The only problem I have is, I now live in Jackson when I used to live only 5 minutes from the Meadowlands. I would have to drive there, catch them, transport them, keep them alive till the weekend, and then put in my saver in my slip. Pain in the ASS.. That is why I am depending on the Gulp this year.. lol

I would like to take you up on that offer. I'm in North Bergen, send me a PM or e-mail red65@newjerseyhunter.com t^

Most fluke boats supply squid strips & spearing.
-
I went and got a trap. Guy at the bait shop told me to place the trap 1 hour before high tide thru slack and check 1 hour later... ???
-
I place my trap about a half hour past low tide, read a newspaper and drink a coffee and pull the trap after about a half hour of soaking. Usually have enuff killies for two trips.
I think the time in and leaving the traps in depends on the area you are trapping. That is my opinion anyway.
-
red, I sent you an email with specifics. All ofd rte 7 or Belleville tpk from North Arlington to Jersey city is best bet. Good luck!!!
-
Thanks Greg... t^

Sea Robbin strips are always a good go, they last through many fish and a great way to make use of our little winged friends TT^

Hey Luna,
On your way to AH drop a pot at one of the small estuaries ether in Keansburg, Leonardo or Keyport (real good and easy).
Keyport is easy to get to and it has a parking lot close to a great creek. Right there by the fish market. Fill the pot with good ol sticky Wonder bread have a cup of coffee and in about 15 min you should have enough to fill your tank.
Good Luck.

I'm not to familiar with that area. I was thinking of dropping a pot or 2 somewhere in the AH marina. I would like to find a good spot somewhere close, but there is no place like the meadowlands for those 5" Killies...
-
5" Killies...
never seen a 5 inch killie. :D

Seriously, the swamp land of the Meadowlands have huge, hearty, steroid Killies. Trust me with this one. More realistic, 3" is no lie.

I never saw one that big ,I would love to see one ,I could make some money on those baits
-
No commercial netters allowed in the meadows. Check out the Hackensack River for some big ones too!
-
I'm thinking of dropping a trap at my dock in GKH ... anyone hear of killies being caught in the area?
Thanks!
