Title: Pilot-Tastee Bass 6/24
Post by: pilot2550 on June 24, 2009, 10:08:39 PM
Made bait this afternoon outside in the vacinity of the Highlands bridge. Eagle eye Donnie spotted them and we put hooks into them for a good 45 minutes.  Isolated pods of bunker were all over with no marks below.   They were very spooky and would sound with the crash of the treble.  We made bait (a couple of dozen and half) and motored down to rocks.  Had all intentions of going as far south as necessary but there was no need.  Hook was dropped, lines in the water with livies being the ticket. Conditions were perfect. Glass like water on the ride down, cloud cover, moving water when we got there and an occassional spritzing.   For the next two hours we had classic top water action.  Nervous bunker got corraled, harassed, tail slapped, crashed and engulfed within 30 yards of the transom.  Donnie gets the props for the day boating 3 nice fish.  29, 31' and a quality 42 that was returned for some other lucky angler. We had our share of runoffs and witnessed bunker getting banged on the top.  What a sight  chrz .  There were a few monster demons that were in the area that measured same length as the smaller bass probably weighing 12-15 lbs.  We kept three of them for a buddy of Don's who is sharking this weekend.  Don sr (Miaggi) had a tough day today with a few birds  ;) but made a quick recover after a huge fish busted him off.  Joe C. (AKA JOE POPS) got off to a slow start but managed to nail a couple of nice gators during the two hour window. The kid worked a Pencil Popper like a champ but the bass were into the bait.  I had my share of mishaps today.  Missed 4 good runoffs.  Hate to say it, but two of them were due to a s%@* knot on my part.  >:(  Humbling.

As the tide turned, wind shifted out of the south and the bite turned off.  We stuck it out till 6:00 with a couple of blues keeping our hopes up.  The rain came and we headed back to the barn.

Another fine day with the Mcguivers and Joe Pops!
