Title: IBSP 7/8/09
Post by: TRSteve71 on July 08, 2009, 06:36:28 PM
Well since my gf loves the beach and we both agree that IBSP is cleaner than the public beaches and not as crowded, we again packed up and hit the beach. We fished section 13, or parking lot 13.

I changed the hook on one of my rigs from a striper/bluefish rig to a fluke rig hoping to entice different fish. I used Squid, Bunker and spearing.

Well this day I did NOT get skunked, altho I didn't catch the fish I was after I did set a personal best record for Sea Robin, this thing was HUGE!! Had to be all of 18 inches in length! Biggest one I have ever caught! He was thrown back altho I could have used him for bait, I had tons of squid and bunker so no reason to kill him. GF agreed! LOL

So this day was gorgeous, water was nice and clear, sun was hot and the fishing was fishing. Saw some birds diving out in the water in front of me but further than I could cast. Tons of little fish swimming around in the surf too, Spearing?

Since my GF and her kids LOVE LOVE LOVE the beach and I can bring my pole, you will see alot of reports from me.

t^  Good try.  Nice to have a tug on the other end of the line huh?  Even if it is a "junk fish"....it's a fish as far as I'm concerned.

Great report and a fish is a fish!

IBSP is nice.  The birds are certainly not scarce or small.  I had a big one in the fall take a bottle plug.  I was very surprised when I brought it in.  They could be spearing, rainfish or even anchovies in the surf...they have all been around the last couple of weeks.  Spearing have been really, really thick in the bay.  I saw a school on the bayside of IBSP the other night so thick, I could have walked across them ;D.

OK cool..

Only thing I would change about IBSP is the walk from the car to the beach. I am about 360lbs and not in the best of shape (altho walking like this might help) and walking to the beach is hard work with all my gear. I really truly love standing the surf holding my pole and fishing. I don't use a sandspike altho I made some from PVC, I tend to hold my pole out in the surf, therefore getting my bait out further.

If you have a 4 wheel drive vehicle you can get a permit to drive on the beach. much easier. I finally gave in yesterday and got one. Tired of walking all the gear and firewood through the sand.

Three of us went out yesterday around 6:30pm and stayed till 12. Didn't catch a thing. used bunker and clam.  At least I got some casting practice with the new rod! And we still had a good time as always.
