Title: IBSP 7-19-09
Post by: SurfJockey on July 20, 2009, 03:59:07 PM
Spent Saturday night 10pm - Sunday morning 9am out on the island about 50 yards North of the cabin.  Took 2 dogfish, and 3 skates with clams, on the first 5 casts, then nothing for the rest of the night.  Blah.

Thanks.  Seems like all I've been getting out there are dogfish and skates.  I'm there about 3 times a week.  Last Wednesday a dogfish pulled my rod right outta the spike and dragged it down to the surf.....Luckily I'm light on my feet.  He was damn near 4' and fighting like a sum'bitch.

Either way, the MSFV pass was the best thing I've ever bought.  I'm out there in a grey '06 Nissan Xterra with some decals on the rear window.  Don't be afraid to stop by and throw me some tips & tactics if you see me!

Welcome aboard Jason,

Well I guess the first tip it to lighten your drag a bit so you don't have to go running after your equipment... rofla rofla

I have been fishing that area for years now one thing you might want to try is getting your bait up off the sand.  Either pick up some small corks or the clear small floats called bubbles.  It will keep the bait our of the skates mouth at least, not so much the doggies.

What size hooks are you using?  This time of year at night the smallest I will use are the 8/0's on average either 9's or 10/0's.

I am just coming off a sort of vacation and will be getting out there soon myself.  I have a maroon Expedition with kayak racks on top and a cooler rack up front.  If you see me coming try to get my attention as when I am out there I usually have tunnel vision a lot of the time.

Again Welcome Aboard

Happy Catching

Paul

Well, better than the skunk!  Were you entered in the Garbage Fish Tournament this weekend 5hrug?  Those fish could win you some cash :P.

I'll be sure to keep that drag loose from now on Paul!  It wasn't fun getting all that sand out of the reel.   rgmn
I think I've been using 6's actually.

I just found that Garbagefish tourney yesterday.  That dog would have put me damn close to 1st place!  I think I'll get in on that.....Or at least buy a t-shirt!

I think we've all chased a rod/reel into the water at some point or another or dropped the reel into the sand, etc...it is bound to happen fishing on the beach rgmn cfzd hhppy!
