Nope...that's a bergall (cunner).  It's in the wrasse family, and they are nothing but bait stealers.  Cut them up and use them for ling bait!

definately a begal when i was your age i kew guys that ate them they ground them up and made fish cakes bayonne does have black fish though
just as we have green crabs to use for bait and fidlers and my buddy was grabing bait from under rocks on the newark bay side we also have mitten crabs

They are in the family of black fish. Awesome ling bait...

Bergall/cunner, cousin to the blackfish/tog.

Actually taste quite good but very boney so need fairly large ones.  Largest I ever caught was one about 16" out in Orient Pt. NY.
World record is a few pounds.

They'll be next to have limits on them with the way regulations are going.
