Title: Another Question For Capt. Chris Gatley
Post by: Bucktail on November 25, 2009, 04:44:23 AM
Capt. Chris,

If you could take only three Shimano Butterfly jigs with you for a day of tuna jigging, what models, colors and sizes would you choose?

Your choices need to be the Shimano jigs only.  No other brands.

Thanks,
Bob

Bob-

sorry for the delayed response.  I was away for turkey day.

here are my three favorite shimano butterfly jigs that encompass tuna, bluefish, albies and stripers within 50 miles of land:

3 lures in all makes it tough but here it is in no order:

1.  168 gram flat side aji color
2.  110 gram traditional jig in blue or aji
3.  200 gram traditional in blue, aji or pink

then, i have all of those colors in rolls of duct tape just in case one color or another works and I only have a few jigs.

I really like aji, blue and pink and I like to use the lightest jig I can get away with unless herring are the forage.  when that happens (in jersey late in the year) I use 224 gram jigs. I have them but seldom use them in June, July other tuna months.

Just one more question please.  What size assist hooks do you recommend for tuna?
