Okay So im not really into cast plugs and poppers into the surf constantly and neither is my wife we are more the bait and wait type but i was just wondering about whats the best artificial bait or is it always good to just stick with fresh bait
-
It really depends on the season and what bait the fish are eating. The best artificial bait would be one that best "matches the hatch."
If I had to pick a few that I would carry, one would be a bottle plug/casting swimmer, AVA's, Hopkins, Deadly Diks, Polaris Popper, a Bomber, and a needlefish all paired up with a white/green clouser teaser.

whs plus some Berkley Gulp in sand eels, white or green grubs and red sand worms. Just my 2 cents.

thanks guys appreciate the info...Found a pretty neat looking aritificial EEL lure at my local gun shop im going to try out its pretty different
its a swimming eel ???
thanks again

All lures work. Some are just more versatile under more conditions. Whenever I'm asked by my customers to choose a few basic lures to get started in the surf, here's what I normally choose:
In order from top to bottom of the water column
Popper
Swimming plug
Metal
Bucktail or leadhead jig
-
Softbaits are my favorite, especially ones with thinner profiles. The ease of changing bodies attracted me to them originally but they are realistic in feel and profile, and some even smell like the real deal. bumping a 8" ronz with a 1oz jighead across the bottom would be my #1 choice in the fall, with bigger bodied baits or some bigger plugs taking center stage in the spring.

I have to add...without a doubt, you need a T-HEX lure in there from AOK Tackle. A MUST HAVE piece of metal! Very versatile and a fish catcher...

^ What Sand eels actually look like.
From what you can see in picture #4, that's what a sand eel looks like. Pictures 1-3 show lures that imitate sand eels. Whatever stripers/blues are chasing, is what they want. Clams are always a safe choice as far as I know, but clams bring the dogs. The past few months, before and after the major storm we had, the stripers and blues were hitting on anything metal.
That's about it for my arsenal. I usually bring 2 poles for myself on the beach, one for casting lures, and one with a Hi-Lo rig (custom made by myself!!) with clams/mullet/bunker etc.

Great post...
I was with my Brother Shay Shay last night for a sushi dinner and he whipped out this little gem from the inside of his coat. We've fished all sized paddle tails but I haven't used anything this big.. Not to steal this post but has anyone had any success with these largers ones like this 9" with the double hooks? Found them on line for $5.99 at tackle warehouse
