Hey guys,
Alot of talk about fishing spots like "mudhole", "shrewsbury rocks", etc.
Are these area shown on any maps?
Orrrr....how much do I have to pay a capt. to learn about these places. ;D
Honestly, I would like to buy a boat next year for some inshore fishing and have at least a little bit of a clue as to where area's are located.

None of the spots you mentioned (and a lot of others) are secrets. They are all general areas. Get a marine chart and anyone will be able to point them out to you. The only secret spots are specific locations.

Hi Sam3,
We have the charts right on the site and we will help you find the locations you refer to and more.
Good charts and reading them well can make you an experrt at finding productive areas to find fish while others are struggling.
The reference charts are in the Member's forum under GPS and "Other Specific Locations."
Also, I choose to use MapSource software and have Homeport charts, amongst another couple hundred reference books.

On some of the new fishfinder/GPS combo area such as the the rocks,mudhole wrecks are mark clearly on the navigation pages.. Plus contact Capt. Ed..He's the man was the list of every out there!!!

I do not want to start something here. By all means do not want to this to sound the wrong way. I even have fishing buddies that are the same way, but what if everyone just put some time in. Like someone said a few post above this one, these are all well know spots. Just get out with the right conditions and catch fish. If people would spend all the time fishing instead reading reports and posts they would learn alot. I still learn something everytime I am out on the water. Somethings I suggest, read everything,keep a log, study charts, and wet a line. Most of this game is trial and error, even when you don't catch anything you are learning. There are to many variables in fishing to learn it over the computer. With the new chartplotters and fishfinders its easier then ever to find spots.

Sounds like fun!! everyone learns from someone and I'd rather see guys catch anything over burning $$ on fuel,bait and ramp fee to go Zero for the day...
The site has a great deal of maps and help forums..Plus members should just ask..Thats how we all learned.. Someone sharing info!!

I agree with Bowguide, you have to start somewhere. There are many things in life that are unknown only because people never took the time to ask or speak up.
I also see your point in that you do have to learn things as you go along. But providing info makes for a more efficient learning process.

Believe me there is nothing better then seeing someone hook up with a nice fish for the first time. I also have no problem sharing info. Just some people have to realize how much time and $$$ it takes. This is what most of us dream about and when someone asks for info about the rocks because they might buy a boat one day just gets me. How about buy the boat, take a safty course, and then one of us will take you their. Or how about buy a chart and then ask. We have all been the boat catching fish when all other boats have their hands in their pockets. And we have all been the ones with our hands in our pockets watching. Both sides of this why we keep going and spend $$$$ on tackle and fuel.

The private section is set on a post count. That way we can see if your a tool or not prior to it opening up for you.. So far we are "Tool" free t^

charts i have are "home port" charts and have alot of info on them to learn from. chart #6 will show long island to sandy hook out to 50 nmiles. also i have somethign i will email to you, you will need adobe to open it ;D

i see nothing wrong with sharing unless its your honey spot no one knows about. correct me if im wrong but most of these fish "migrate" they dont hang in same spot all year so whos to say they are always going to be in that spot.
Most of the spots mud hole 17 fathoms rocks are all on maps if not anyone can tell ya where they are. But yes it does take time and money finding some good spots but ill tell ya where ....sharing is KEY...
Now tell me how to read those dang charts !

I agree there are honey holes, but don't always catch. There are times im right on top of fish, everyone on the boat using the same bait, but only 1 person catches. Then that person moves to the front to give another person a chance to catch fish in his original spot... now that guy still catches fish in the front of the boat... moral of the story... You still have to catch the fish, not just find them..

Who needs what numbers? Structures and areas clearly marked on charts available for sale are not "secret spots." I think everyone should have some reference chart on board but if you are just starting out, no harm to help.
BTW, spots I was working and published last week are already not working.
We will help everyone not just with locations but how to look at charts and identify areas that may be productive.

The scale on the side of the chart, going north and south, one minute = one mile.

if you have a gps, just punch in the appropriate numbers, and it will do all the work for you. Most charts will have the numbers of a particular location. Don't worry too much about reading it, when your unit will do it for you...

Hey reel can you send me anything on maps loking for a good raritan bay map with bottom structure and know how far i MIGHT be able to go past hook like farms maybe?
