Title: Bilge Pump Wire

Has anyone replaced the connections from the console to the bilge pump. The wire to the pump on my 17 cc broke under the deck and needs to be rerun, the trouble I am having is getting it thru the foam block under the deck.I do not want to run fishtape thru the tube that contains all the wiring to the engine for fear I will cause more damage than I have now. Any help would be great.

Hi Artie, Welcome to the site.

There should be a wire-way there, when I ran a new wire under my CC, I first fished a length of Ceiling wire thru, then pulled back the wire.  You say they have that all foamed in?  have you tried in both directions?

The part of running the wire I am worried about,is if I use a fishtape or piece of wire to pull a new wire thru it will tear some of the existing wires going to thr outboard. Has anyone done something like this before, is there another way around it.

If you tape the end well into a point.  you shouldn't have a problem. it should just find the easiest path.  it it get's tight. pull it back and try again t^

Can you tape onto existing wire to pull new wire?

also look for a string or fiberglass tape, sometimes the manufactures leave these behinde to add options etc. It might be right there and you don't even see it.
you can also try blowing thru a small piece of paper tied to some mono with compressed air or the opposite. suck it thru with a vacume cleaner

And if you do get thru, I would leave the string in there for future use

Thanks for all the tips,I'm going to try and locate a fiberglass fishtape and see how that works.

I've run more bilge pump wires than I can count.
Whats mentioned above is the way its done.
Wrap the end of the fish with electrical tape and push it thru. Spray 9 cleaner makes a good lubricant. Like said above, run an extra line thru for the future. I use Nylon crab trap line.
Works great on steering cables too.

You could pull it through with one of the existing wires. Put a line on it so you can pull it back through.
