Title: Blackfish reel
Post by: jet on December 30, 2009, 02:31:51 PM
I just purchased the Avet SX 5:3:1 to supplement my Calcutta 400 reel for my Blackfishing needs. Does anyone have any feedback to share on the Avet ?? The drag has '4' settings: namely, free, bait, strike, and full. Does anyone have experience to share with using this reel and it's settings ?
I am hoping that the Avet can stand up to the success I've enjoyed with the Calcutta.

i have 2 sx's and i use them as an all around reel and they make a fine blackfish reel!!!!!!!!
the only drawback i see is the need to disengage the lever drag in order to re adjust the drag on a larger fish.

Once the drag is set that's it,but when I blackfish I rarely allow line to come off the reel. I always set up on full drag and that's it.  ;D

i agree with that....i was merely pointing it out as a general fact about those reels t^
yesterday i used my Diawa Sealine SHV 30 and i was pretty impressed with the drag power and overall perfomance of the reel as well....must be careful not to rip the hook out while reeling in with this reel due to the 6:1 retrieve speed.
