Largest member of the needlefish family according to NOAA. If you can believe them.  ;D

I disagree on the houndfish.  It looks like an Atlantic Needlefish which grows to about 2ft and ranges from Maine to Brazil.  Houndfish have a shorter beak but also range from NJ to Brazil.  Houndfish are the biggest on the group and can reach 5 ft.  Needlefish have a bluish tint on the tail when first caught and the hounds have a black lobe on the dorsal fin.  The only other way to tell is by counting the number of fin rays.  The needlefish has 16-20 anal fin rays and houndfish have 22-24 anal fin rays.

But then again.  Looking at both the Hound and The needle fish.  they are pretty hard to tell apart.  On some sites they show the same picture for both ;D
