Title: Reel for Tsunami XH??
Post by: wb on January 30, 2010, 01:52:52 PM
I picked up a Tsunami TSTBC 661XH 6'6" for cheep awhile back and was originally planning on pairing it with the Penn 309 or 320GTI's I have. However it looks like those reels are still spoken for- I will need to purchase another reel.  clp  chrz

I am looking at, and still coveting, the Avets. Have heard good things, but have not tried one yet. Would the SX be too small for the XH? It is a beefy stick... Probly use for chunking or maybe trolling (altho I don't normally troll too much....)

BAM right back on topic.  >:D

I have 2 of the MH Series. I love them and have the 350 Baitrunners on them. I use them for trolling, Chunking and Casting t^  The 350's seem like a perfect size match for those Rods.

I think we're talking about casting rods here. Right?

Yes, conventional line wt 30-50lb lure wt 1-8oz
I'm thinking the SX may be a bit small?

Pretty big jump in price from the Penn's to the Avet.

I don't get the Avets for inshore use. Sure they're pretty but why do you need a $300.00 lever drag reel for inshore use. I'd rather spend $150.00 on a Shimano or Penn and use the other $150.00 for another outfit...just my opinion...

Good point BNBs, that is my usual way of thinking too. I have heard good things regarding avet. Pricing on the single speed sx is down around $200, comparable to some of the Penns. I have and use Penns, looking to try something different, and recommended, but probly need to upsize for the XH stick.

Thanks for weighing in.

Avet 5.3 one speed can be purchased for $179 today. I own one and use it on a Tsunami Magnum series TSMG701XH Rated for 20-50 # line and and  7 ' long. This combo is very light and makes a nice party boat rod. It can handle up to 16 oz or more of lead. I have 50# power pro on it and have caught blackfish to 11.5# and just used it codfishing with 16oz.  in RI/Block Is.The avet is not a casting reel although when you get used to it you may do better than me. Only 14# max on the drag according to the manufacturer. Not a tuna reel. Great for inshore bait fishing to 100' or so. The 2 speed is nice too but more money. Hope this helps  ;D
