 cant beat an 8' shakespear.

as to running duel antennas, i wouldnt. they would have to be placed at specific distances, and would be semi directional, and i think that would be a bad thing in time of need.

although if placed far enough apart i dont know how they would react, or if there would be any performance loss. but belive there would be performance loss just by the added antenna wire itself.

either way, im sure paul could really nail this one down for ya.

There really isn't a need to have two antenna's for a VHF radio today.  The antennas and radio systems are designed with such gain now you shouldn't need it.  BUT if you do choose too, the antennas have to be directional to not interfer with each other and the radio may have to have the ability to support such a setup.

Thanks for the info it's basically just my OCD kicking in lol to even out the top of the boat with an antenna on each side

I was looking at an 8 ft digital antenna they have a regular and they have a wide band do you know the diffrence between the wide band and the regular they are both 6db

Hi guys,

Drop the idea of duel antennas as you will run into problems with the patterns they put out to such a degree that it will cancel out your signal, this is the simple description.

If you are looking for the best antenna out there look at its GAIN performance.  You want the highest gain possible.  What you should also look at is the height of your antenna over the waters surface.  The higher the better.  I run a ham vhf radio in my car and I can make it to a number of repeaters in Pa from Toms river.  It is all about the gain again and how the system is set up.

So the things to look for are simple:

GAIN  &  HEIGHT of the ant.

Shakespeare Ant's are great as many other out there.

Happy Catching

Paul

We are a Sponsor!!!!! on here and we deal with Shakespeare and Digital. If going with a Shakespeare go with a Galaxy Series. Digital makes a great antenna as well.
Give us a call 609-812-5195. Thanks. Matt.

No need for 2, if you must.. hook one up and leave the other one as a back up where you would only have to plug it into the radio.
