Title: battery
Post by: double3fd on March 19, 2010, 07:11:46 AM
Hey guys, quick question, last year I had some issues with my battery, an needin a jump start on the water. I'm gettin new electronics an want to know, if I hook up my steareo, radio, fishfinder-sonar to a seperate battery, does it matter what kinda of battery it is? Do I need a marine type battery or would any type of smaller standard battery work?

I use the West Marine Sea Volt Batteries

One Starting and one Deep Cycle and have for years. Never had a problem.

I am on a schedule where one year I replace the starting battery and the next year the Deep cycle. So the longest I run a battery is 2 yrs.

Each Spring West Marine has a good battery sale, where certain ones are up to 1/2 off.

Hope this helps t^

If your using the battery strictly for you electronics get a deep cycle battery or at least a dual purpose battery, don't get a starting battery.

The Dep cycle Battery is made to give a low voltage charge over a long period of time, electronics, etc.

Starting battery is made to give that short large surge.

Run a 2 battery system and them when you go on anchor and are using the stereo, etc switch to the deep cycle.  2 battery system easy to install, if you don't have one.

NEVER switch batteries when the engin is running, will damage the electrical system.
