Title: ? Cleaning up older reels?
Post by: nascarwarren on March 29, 2010, 08:22:17 PM
Hey there e1, I was given a few older reels (ocean city, penn). Ineed to clean them up due to saltwater use. Internally they are in good shape. I would like to know whats a good detergent to use on them. Just want to clean-up the spools without taking them apart. All info is greatly appreciated.

What I use is a mild soapy solution in hot water and dunked into an ultrasonic.  This way the solvent is friendlier and it gets into all the nooks and cranny's.

I may have to keep this in mind. I have a few new reels that I need to take care of once they get some use.
