Title: Trailer Wheels
Post by: sperzonkers2 on April 01, 2010, 10:23:17 AM
Hi all, since I trailer my 18ft CC I was wondering do any of you remove the trailer wheels to clean? I have lubed the bearings once a year but have not taken the wheel off> Is there something else I should be looking at or doing?

Thanks!!

I would say for saltwater application, if hauling the boat on a regular basis and for any distance If it was me, I would pull the wheels every season replace the seals and bearings.  They are relatively inexpensive.  I'm in freshwater and do it every third year.  Nothing like sitting on the side of the road with burnt up bearings and a trashed spindle.  Kind of ruins your whole weekend. Or, at least inspect your seals and bearings on an annual basis. But, that's me  ^-^

Even if you do not do the bearings I would jack it up and spin the wheels to see if there is any noise coming from the bearing.  If not I would make sure the lug nuts/bolts are not so rusted that you can not get them loose.
