I always have to keep myself busy, so it was time to address the areas of the deck that have lost the "Factory" non skid surface that was moulded into the fiberglass back in 2003.
I researched the option of applying a new epoxy layer and re-texturing it to match the factory pattern. Decided against that.
I obtained samples from Durabak,it was very rough, and I had a hard time cleaning blood and dirt off of the samples. Best to leave this where it belongs, commercial applications and pick up truck beds.
Evercoat, a friend had it, broke /peeled in places, was rough as well. Might have been the way it was applied, I passed.
KiwiGrip, Sani-Tred,adhesive mats,loose mats, paint with sand,salt, etc.I checked out just about everything. What I wanted was something with grip, but not rough on bare feet and knees.Something that would look good as well as last more then one season, and clean up fairly easy.

As with any paint/surface application, cleaning and prep of the surface always take the most time, but it is a requirement for a quality, lasting job. I applied two coats of beige,(always go with a light color if you don't want to fry your bare feet in the sun). The stuff does provide a lot more grip then the bare fiberglass and looks great too. I'll give you an update on how well it holds up during the season.

If it does not hold up well, I'll do something else. I'm always looking for a project to work on. And for the record, No, I have not painted the mailbox post yet. ;D <'((((><

Looks real nice. How did you prep your old non-skid? Might look like something I could use in the yard. Used plenty of interlux products but not this one yet.

First I washed the deck with an acid based hull cleaner, rinsed and let dry. Then I prepped the surface with interlux 202 fiberglass cleaner and prep, which is high priced ketone that you could get for less at Home Depot. This step removes any wax,dirt, and release agents from the fiberglass.9 (I think the acid based hull cleaner did most of the work) Double check that all wax is removed with a sprinkle of water, if it beads, keep cleaning there is still wax on the surface. Next was to rough it up a bit with bronze wool(what was left of the old non skid should have been enough to grab) but it's only a little more rubbing. Next was tape and then paint. Interlux stated no primer was required on bare fiberglass. Metal and wood surfaces do require the primer. I chose beige, light enough to not fry in the sun, but dark enough to hide a little dirt. I'll see how it holds up. <'((((><

Looks Great Darren, keep us up to date on it. TT^ I am jealous of your seats they are holding up well! Mine vinyl on the Seats are beat. I had to recover my coaming bolsters last year they were in such bad shape. fcp
