A friend just called me and told me his next door neighbor had been crabbing in Hazlet with his son and daughter.
To make a long story short, They were approached by 2 fish cops and 2 summons were issued.
1) a summons was issued for crabbing with more than one trap per person. (nowhere did I ever read a 1 trap per person limit)
2) A second summons was issued for using chicken for bait (asked why about the bait and was told "salmonella poisoning")
Is this correct ???????
you can't crab with more than one trap.
Or use chicken for bait????????
Just when I thought I saw it all :headscra:

Sounds like your friend's neighbor is passing along bad information. This is directly from the NJDEP Division of Fish and Wildlife. Specifically states that chicken necks is a popular bait. (Second paragraph under
Recreational Crabbing Techniques
http://www.state.nj.us/dep/fgw/blueclaw.htm
Also check page 4 of the regulations for the trap issue. Says two non-collapsable traps a person with rec license, etc. Mentions nothing about the typically used collapsable type trap.
For whatever reason, someone is passing on bad information.
The only restriction I see is for the Newark Bay region. Maybe he was there? 5hrug

Thank's for the reply.
I told my friend about what the regs say , and he told me he saw the 2 Summons.
I'm not putting any more into this, I guess he'll have his day in court ( something don't sound right )
And by the way, Its my friends neighbor. Not my friend who got wrote up

Weird, when I think crabbing, Hazlet does not jump to the top of my mind...
Maybe over by Lentzes? I think the W side of Laurel is actually West Keansburg. As I recall WK sends its students to the mightymighty Raritan High School.
Go Rockets!!! Yeah.
