Title: Electric motors
Post by: penturner on August 14, 2010, 09:38:56 AM
Can someone tell me why some lakes prohibit electric trolling motors? I really can't think of a reason.    ???  Thanks!

I can't think of a good reason either. But this is the state of NJ, where a good reason is not necessary.  :P

It could be that it was a stipulation of the original owner of the lake.  Take for instance Prospertown Lake in Jackson. Switlik the original owner gave the lake to the state with the stipulation that there be no motors of any kind used on it.

Maybe that quiet hum of the motor will disrupt the peace. Maybe the word motor in general sounds loud and unpleasant to these "law makers". So if we just simply call it something else all our problems dissappear!

Prospertown Lake is one of the ones I was wondering about. Seems like a the town county owned lakes have a problem with them, but the state owned lakes do not. Thanks for your thoughts.

it was probably just bad wording when they made the reg, and didn't have the sense to include eletric, but wardens are still made to enforce it. Whats poor regulating is all the factories and plants along the river and ponds, i work in enviromental response and you can spill a coke in a parking lot 100yds from the pond, in a couple years, it WILL make it there. But thats a touchy subject not made for a fishin board  t^  chrz
